Pioneers Resume MonDak Conference Play With Win Over Bottineau

Ethan Venema had a 17-point 2nd half outburst as the Pioneers stretched a 36-34 halftime lead to 22 points with 7:00 remaining as the Pioneers resumed conference play with a 84-70 victory over Dakota College of Bottineau Wednesday night in Miles City. Venema (6'7 Sophmore) poured in 30 points (11-16 FG, 4-5 3's, 4-5 FT) and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Pioneers move to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in MonDak Conference play. The win was the Pioneers 4th consecutive victory. 

Koak Kok (6'7 Freshman) came off the bench to score 12 points (5-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and snag 4 rebounds and guard Ethan Bell (6'0 Sophomore) had a nice night with 11 points (4-7 FG, 0-2 3's, 3-4 FT) and 7 assists. 

Dakota College had a big night from Max Groom (6'1 Sophomore) with 36 points (12-23 FG, 2-6 3's, 10-15 FT) and the only other Lumberjack in double figures was Shandon Judd-Danne Anderson (6'4 Sophomore) with 10 points (2-7 FG, 0-1 3's, 6-6 FT).  The Lumberjacks fell to 6-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

  • The Pioneers shot 31-55 (56%) from the field and 7-16 (44%) from the 3-point line. The Pioneers shot 21-34 (62%) in the 2nd half and hit 6-9 3-pointers. 
  • Dakota College was 23-61 (38%) from the field and 4-19 (21%) from 3-point range. 
  • MCC outrebounded DCB 35-31. The Pioneers only had 4 offensive boards and the Jacks had 10.
  • The Pioneers dished out 19 assists on 31 field goals and the Lumberjacks only had 5.
  • MCC committed 19 turnovers and DCB had 17. 
  • Dakota College connected on 20-27 (74%) from the free throw line and Miles hit 15-19 (79%).

The Pioneers travel to Glendive on Sunday for a conference matchup with Dawson at 4:00 PM MST.
