Pioneers Push Past Bismarck State in Overtime Thriller

Pioneers 90... Bismarck State 86 (OT)

Payton Kokot (6'3 Sophomore) scored 22 points (9-10 FG, 3-4 3's, 1-2 FT) and shook off missing the go ahead free throw with 1.2 seconds left in regulation with a big basket in the overtime session and the Pioneers survived a 40-point performance by Bismarck State's Isaiah Davis (6'6 Sophomore) with a 90-86 overtime win on Sunday afternoon in Miles City. 

Bismarck State guard Raymond Brown (5'10 Freshman) knocked down a 3-point field goal with 4 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 76-76. MCC's Kokot was they fouled on what appeared to be a shooting foul but was called before the shot and a 1 and 1 was issued to Kokot and he missed the front end. The Pioneers then outscored the Mystics 14-10 in the overtime session and took advantage of a 14-18 performance at the free throw line to pull out the MonDak Conference victory. 

Aguir Dawam (6'7 Sophomore) added 17 points (6-14 FG, 2-5 3's, 3-5 FT), a team high 8 rebounds, and 4 assists for the Pioneers. Frontcourt partners Ethan Venema (6'7 Sophomore) and Daniel Piech Meat (6'6 Sophomore) each scored 14 points for the Pioneers. Piech Meat (5-9 FG, 4-4 FT) added 7 rebounds off the bench and Venema (4-6 FG, 2-3 3's, 4-5 FT) also had 2 blocked shots. 

Isaiah Davis had a huge night with with 40 points (14-27 FG, 6-13 3's, 6-7 FT) and 7 rebounds. Gavyn Strand (6'2 Sophomore) scored 16 points (6-12 FG, 4-7 FT) off the bench. Hussein Elmaraghy (6'7 Freshman) had a team high 10 rebounds for the Mystics. 

Bismarck State led by 8 points at the 16:39 mark of the 1st half and the Pioneers quickly turned that to an 11-point lead with 8:49 to go in the half. Bismarck State then took a 1-point lead to halftime in the back and forth game.

 Bismarck State slipped to 3-9 in MonDak Conference play and are 8-14 overall. Miles moved to 7-6 in MonDak Conference play and are 11-11 overall. Miles will host Lake Region State on Thursday at 1:00 PM at the MCC Centra for elementary school day.
