Hot Shooting Leads to Lady Pioneer Win

Sophomore Claire Borot scorched the nets for 26 points (9-17 FG, 6-11 3's) and 7 rebounds as the Lady Pioneers took control in the 2nd quarter and maintained a tie for the lead in the league standings with a convincing 85-72 win over Lake Region State College. 

After a back and forth first quarter, MCC took control of the game in the second quarter outscoring LRSC 28-12. The Lady Pioneers then kept the Royals at arms length in the 2nd half building a 16 point 4th quarter lead with some balanced scoring and timely shot making. Freshman Lili Long added 21 points and 4 assists while fellow Aussie Binta Salawu had a double double with 17 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds. Olyvia Pacheco joined in double figures with 11 points and 6 rebounds. The Lady Pioneers forced 27 turnovers on the night to offset getting beat on the boards 44-35. The MCC defense held the Royals to 34% shooting and in turn shot 53% on the other end while connecting on 10 3-point field goals. 

The Lady Pioneers will hit the road for 4 out of the last 5 games starting Sunday in Wahpeton, ND for a date with North Dakota State College of Science. The Lady Pioneers moved to 8-1 in league play and 16-9 overall.
