Pioneer Women Score Season High to Run Past Dawson

The MCC Pioneers scored a season high 89 points and strung together back to back wins for the first time this season with a resounding 89-72 win over in-state rival Dawson Community College on Monday night at the MCC Centra. 

Isabella Gurie (Sophomore - Columbus, MT) dominated the paint with a career high 28 points (12-18 FG, 4-5 FT) to go along with a team high 8 rebounds to lead 4 Pioneers in double figures in the win. Tyla Scorah (Freshman - Pakenham, Victoria) added 22 points (8-14 FG, 4-10 3's, 2-2 FT), 7 assists, and 3 steals. Jessica Makayabo (Sophomore - Eastlake, TX) came off the bench to score 12 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3's, 4-5 FT) and grab 5 rebounds while Lainey Smith (Sophomore - Miles City, MT) chipped in 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3's) and 5 rebounds. 

The Pioneers previous high in scoring this season was 73 back in November against Rocky Mountain College JV. MCC led for the majority of the contest as there was only one tie and 2 lead changes. 

Dawson got 26 points (9-21 FG, 5-12 3's, 3-3 FT) from Eirinie Chatznikoli (Sophomore - Athens, Greece) and 19 points (9-13 FG, 1-2 3's, 0-1 FT) off the bench from Marion Serramalera (Freshman - Barcelona, Spain). Serramalera also had a team high 6 rebounds.

  • The Pioneers also had a season best in field goal percentage shooting 35-61 (57%) from the field and 7-20 (35%) at the line. MCC was 7-20 from the 3-point line. 
  • The Buccaneers shot 30-69 (44%) from the field and 7-21 from the 3-point line. DCC was just 5-8 from the free throw line. 
  • The teams combined for 59 turnovers in the contest as MCC had 33 and DCC had 26.
  • MCC outrebounded the Bucs 33-26. Each team had 8 offensive rebounds. 

With the win, the Pioneers move to 2-3 in MonDak Conference play and are 4-17 overall. Dawson sits in last place of the MonDak standings at 0-5 and are 5-16 overall.
