PIONEERS GO 3-1 AT NDSCS TOURNAMENT

Miles City, MT – The Pioneers were in Wahpeton, ND to take part in the NDSCS Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  In the first game of the tournament, the Pioneers took on Ridgewater College and after a hard fought game by both sides, the Pioneers came out on top 3 sets to 2.  The Pioneers won the first set, 25-19, then dropped the next two, 22-25 and 21-25.  MCC then got into a rhythm and won the last two sets, 25-22, and 16-14.

 Leah Aigner led the team in kills with 18. Tori Ogolin led the team with 32 assists and Briley Cook led the team with three aces.  On defense, Kailey Thomson led the way with 17 digs.  Aigner recorded five blocks.

In Friday's second game, the Pioneers faced Gogebic Community College.  MCC dominated and got the sweep, 3-0.  The set scores were as follows: 25-11, 25-9, and 25-15.  

Tori Ogolin and Samantha Bonenberger led the way with 11 assists apiece.  Taylor Stahl led with nine kills.  Cook had 3 aces.  On the defensive side, Kailey Thomson was the team leader in digs with 13.  Hailee Kuske led the team in blocks with 5.

 Saturday's first game saw the Pioneers face Williston State College.  The Pioneers were still on a roll and playing well as a team.  MCC got the win 3-1.  The set scores were as follows: 25-23, 25-9, 18-25, and 25-20.

 Bonenberger led the Pioneers in assists, with 19. Thomson led the team had four aces and 12 digs.  Amaya LaFranier led the team with 2.5 blocks and 11 kills.  

In the final game of the tournament, the Pioneers faced the #11 team in the nation, Iowa Central Community College. Iowa proved a little too much for the Pioneers.  MCC fell 1-3.  The set scores were as follows: 18-25, 12-25, 25-22, and 15-25.

 MCC had four aces in the game by Thomson.  Thomson also led the team in digs with 14.  Briannah Quick led the way in kills with 12 and blocks with two.  Bonenberger had 14 assists. 

 The Pioneers will return home to face Northwest College in the Kailey Gymnasium on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00 pm.
