Pioneers Snap Losing Streak With Win Over Dakota College

The MCC Pioneers rallied from a 10-point 2nd half deficit with some timely shooting and solid defense in snapping a 7-game losing streak with a 84-74 win over Dakota College at Bottineau on Wednesday night in Miles City. 

The Pioneers put 5 players in double figures in the win which was the first win of 2024 for MCC. The Pioneers last win had been on December 3 against Lake Region State College. 

The Lumberjacks took a 38-36 lead in to the locker room at halftime. The lead swelled to 10 points with 14:53 remaining before the Pioneers rallied outscoring the Jacks 48-36 in the 2nd half. 

Ethan Venema (6'7 Sophomore) led the way for MCC with 18 points (8-16 FG, 1-4 3's, 1-1 FT), 13 rebounds, and 3 assists. Frontcourt mate Aguir Dawam (6'7 Sophomore) also registered a double-double with 14 points (4-9 FG, 0-2 3's, 6-8 FT), 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Ryder Lee (6'5 Sophomore) helped the cause with 15 points (5-8 FG, 2-4 3's, 3-5 FT) with 11 of those coming in the 2nd half. Koak Kok (6'7 Freshman) came off the bench with 14 points (6-7 FG, 2-2 FT) and Ethan Bell (6'0 Sophomore) added 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-4 3's) and 5 assists. 

DCB got 23 points (9-22 FG, 3-13 3's, 2-3 FT) and 6 assists from Brendan Redhead (6'0 Sophomore). Max Groom (6'2 Sophomore) chipped in 18 points (7-21 FG, 3-8 3's, 1-3 FT). Danny Lazic (6'8 Freshman) had a double-double with 14 points (5-10 FG, 4-5 3's) and 11 rebounds. Lazic scored 11 of his points in the 1st half. Brayden West-Linnett (6'5 Freshman) added 11 points (4-10 FG, 3-8 3's), 8 of which came in the 1st half.

MCC moved to 6-5 in MonDak Conference play and 10-10 overall. DCB fell to 6-5 in MonDak play and are now 14-6 overall. The Pioneers host Williston State tonight (Thursday, Jan. 25) at 7:30 PM MST.
