Walk Off Home Run Pushes Pioneers to Region XIII Semifinal

Pioneers 7... Bismarck State 5

Isabelle Adams (3B - Park City, MT) came up clutch smashing a 2-run home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning to push the Pioneers past Bismarck State 7-5 in the quarterfinal of the Region XIII softball tournament Thursday in Glendive, MT. 

The Pioneer found themselves deep in a hole after the top of the 1st inning as Bismarck State rattled off 5 runs in the inning to build a 5-0 lead. MCC pitcher Peyton Whithead (Joliet, MT) then closed the doors on the Mystics for the final 6 innings as the Pioneers chipped away at the Mystic lead. 

The Pioneers got one run back in the bottom of the 1st inning when Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) singled with one out. Taylor Feller (C - Laurel, MT) was hit by a pitch and Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) reached on an error to load the bases. With 2 outs, Isabelle Adams walked to drive in Bagnell. 

MCC inched closer in the bottom of the 2nd inning by scoring 3 runs. Arin Eaton (RF - Belgrade, MT) reached base on an error with one out and Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT) drew a walk. Bagnell drove both runners in with a triple to centerfield and Feller drove Bagnell in with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 5-4. 

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Pioneers tied the game when Eaton walked and then scored when Nelson bunted and reached on an error by the Mystic 1st baseman that also allowed Nelson to move to 2nd base. 

Whitehead's strong pitching held the Mystics at bay to set up Adams heriocs. With 2 outs, Dalilah Hernandez hit an infield single and Adams homered on a 0-1 count to set off the celebration. 

Whithead pitched a complete game 7 innings (7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 6 SO) and the Pioneers will play Dawson at 2:00 Friday afternoon for a chance to move in to the championship game.
