Kailey Gymnasium
The Centra Athletic Center is the home of Pioneer Basketball and Volleyball. Kailey Gymnasium, named after former MCC president Vern Kailey, is a 10,000 square foot gymnasium with the main regulation college floor and two regulation high school side courts. The bleachers hold 837 fans for basketball games. Kailey Gymnasium is also used for various community sporting activities.
P.I.T (Pioneer Intensive Training)
The P.I.T is the athletic team weight rooms renovated in 2016 and a 2nd room in 2018. It is designed to fit the needs of Pioneer teams on campus. With new, state of the art equipment, each team will be able to work out in year round, sport specific training. The P.I.T is an innovative way to allow Pioneer Athletics the opportunity to lift on a day to day basis, without interfering with the day to day operations of the Community Center.
Denton Field
Denton Field is the home of the Pioneer Baseball. The Pioneers are one of three organizations that use the stadium. In the fall, Custer County District High School plays their football games and Miles City Youth Baseball Association uses the facility for their American Legion and Babe Ruth baseball programs.
Denton field has one of the deepest center fields in the region. Dimensions for Denton field are: Center field is 438' with left being 312' and right at 321'.
The construction of Denton Field (as we know it today, since 1966), was first started in the fall of 1939 and finished in the spring of 1940. The work was done by the WPA (Works Projects Administration), a program to relieve unemployment in the era. When completed, it was called League Park (later known as City Ball Park), with a covered grandstand and open concrete bleachers along the 3rd base line, with the wall faced with sandstone and two arched gates. The original plan didn't have poles with lights or a fence around the outfield, also any restrooms. In 1940, Miles City was selected to hose the Northwest Regional American Legion Tourney in the new ball park, but only if an outfield fence was installed. The City Officials and members of the American Legion Post #5 raised funds to get this project (wood fence) done by August in time for the tourney.
Lights were installed in 1941, for Miles City to host the Western Sectional American Legion tourney. In 1943, Miles City was selected to host the American Legion World Series, primarily because of the wars and to keep the tournament out of a large city, especially if that city was in a congested war area. Miles City is the smallest city to ever be awarded the tournament since 1926.
Denton Field received its name from American Legion Coach Doug Denton for his prominance in baseball and other Miles City athletic circles in 1966. His teams won six state titles and runner-up seven times from 1936-1950. (Information courtesy of the Miles City Youth Baseball Association website).
The “Reaper” Hitting Facility
The Miles Community College Baseball Team, in cooperation with Miles City Youth Baseball Association, built a new indoor practice facility in 2015. An 8000 square foot, fully turfed indoor facility gives both the Pioneer baseball team and also the local youth organization the opportunity to practice during the winter months. The facility is equipped with two full length cages, three full length bullpens, and various workout equipment. The “Reaper” as it has been nicknamed, is a top shelf facility that will improve the level of competition at both the collegiate and local levels.
MCC Ag Advancement Center
The Ag Advancement Center, a state-of-the-art, 36,000 square foot educational facility, will include the following: three classrooms, a large indoor arena for equine training and various rodeo events, seating for 500 people, faculty offices, an apartment for an on-site manager, a foyer area featuring the Southeast Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame, and concessions.
The Ag Advancement Center serves as the practice facility for the men's and women's rodeo team at MCC and hosts the annual MCC Spring Rodeo.
