PIONEERS START SEASON 1-1

GAME 1

The Pioneers started their season today against Western Nebraska in Otero, CO on Friday afternoon.  In the first game of the double-header, the teams found themselves tied at 1 after three, but Western Nebraska pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning and then a three run fifth inning.  The Pioneers fell, 3-5.

Luke Turner was on the pitcher's mound for the Pioneers.  He surrendered five runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two.  Jack Stead and Chris Rofe entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one-third of an inning respectively.

Lewis Johnson and Carson Hoke each managed one hit to lead MCC.   The Pioneers didn't commit any errors.  Keith Manby made the most plays with six.  

 

GAME 2

Despite allowing three runs in the seventh inning, the Pioneers defeated Western Nebraska 9-5 in the second half of the double-header. 

 Keith Manby got the start for MCC. He lasted six innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out seven. 

The Pioneers collected eight hits on the day.  James Martin and Jordon Thomson each had multiple hits for the Pioneers. Martin went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead MCC in hits.
