PIONEER BASEBALL SPLITS THE DAY WITH FRASER VALLEY

Game 1

(Tucson, AZ) The Pioneers weathered a scare by Fraser Valley Cardinals in the seventh inning where MCC coughed up three runs, but the Pioneers still got the victory,10-4 on Sunday. MCC got on the board in the first inning when TY Jones doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.  The Pioneers put up three runs in the sixth inning. MCC's offensive firepower was led by Nate Bloxham, Jones, and Lewis Johnson, who each had RBIs in the inning. 

Chris Rofe pitched the Pioneers to victory. He lasted five innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out ten.  Jack Stead and Zack Jensen entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

MCC totaled 11 hits in the game. Jones, Johnson, and Bloxham all managed multiple hits for the Pioneers.  Jones went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Game 2

The Pioneers watched the second half of the doubleheader slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-0 loss to Fraser Valley Cardinals on Sunday.  The Pioneers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Fraser Valley Cardinals, giving up seven runs.  One bright spot for MCC was a single by Lewis Johnson in the second inning.

Sean O'Hagan was on the hill for the Pioneers. He surrendered six runs on two hits over two and a third innings, striking out three. Jack Stead threw four and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

James Martin, Johnson, Keith Manby, and TY Jones all had one hit to lead the Pioneers.

MCC will be in action again Monday, March 4 at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm against The University of Fraser Valley.
