PIONEERS PERFECT ON THE DAY

Game 1

(Tucson, AZ)  Lewis Johnson led to Pioneers on Thursday, driving in four on two hits to lead the Pioneers past Gustavus 15-5 on Thursday. Johnson drove in runs on a triple in the second and a home run in the fourth.  Gustavus scored three runs in the fourth inning, but MCC still pulled out the victory.  The Pioneers got things started in the first inning when  TY Jones hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.  MCC notched six runs in the second inning. James Martin, Johnson, Will Riley, and Keith Manby powered the big inning with RBIs.  

Anthony Bleggi was the winning pitcher for the Pioneers. He allowed eight hits and five runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking one. Zack Jensen threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. 

MCC hit one home run on the day. Johnson had a long ball in the fourth inning.  The Pioneers tallied 13 hits on the day. Riley, Johnson, Manby, Nate Bloxham, and Kiran Carcary all managed multiple hits.  Riley went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Pioneers in hits. Martin led with two stolen bases, and the team as a whole had eight stolen bases.

 

Game 2

It came down to the wire on Thursday, but the Pioneers got victory on a dramatic walk-off sacrifice fly in the late innings that sealed their victory over Dakota Wesleyan University - JV. The game was tied at three  in the bottom of the seventh when Nate Bloxham's sac fly scored one run for the Pioneers.  Dakota Wesleyan University - JV scored three runs in the fourth inning, but MCC hung in there for the victory.  

Luke Turner earned the win on the mound for the Pioneers.  He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one.  Jack Stead started the game for MCC.  He went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five.

The Pioneers collected eight hits on the day. Will Riley, Jordon Thomson, and Jakob Bierig all managed multiple hits. Bierig, Thomson, and Riley each managed two hits to lead the team.  The Pioneers didn't commit a single error in the field. Bloxham had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
