PIONEERS DOMINATE MOUNT MARTY JV

Game 1

(Tucson, AZ) The Pioneers defeated Mount Marty College JV, 20-5 on Friday thanks in part to TY Jones, who drove in eight runners. Jones drove in runs on a home run in the second, a single in the third, and a grand slam in the fourth.   MCC pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Will Riley singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, an error scored one run.  Jones homered on a 2-0 count, scoring three runs, and Jordon Thomson singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Chris Rofe led the Pioneers to victory on the mound. He surrendered four runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out nine. Zack Jensen threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.  

The Pioneers tallied two home runs on the day, courtesy of Jones, who had a dinger in the second and fourth innings.  MCC racked up 18 hits. Jones, Bloxham, Riley, Keith Manby, and Thomson each racked up multiple hits.   Bloxham and Jones all had three hits to lead the Pioneers.

Game 2

Will Riley showed timely hitting on Friday, driving in four on three hits to lead the Pioneers past Mount Marty College JV, 23-8. Riley drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the third, a single in the third, and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.  The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game, as MCC collected 17 hits and Mount Marty College JV had five.  Mount Marty College JV took an early lead in the second inning, but the Pioneers took the lead for good with 13 runs in the third inning. In the third, Riley singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.  Nate Bloxham homered on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.  Keith Manby homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.  James Martin singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.  Riley singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.  Bloxham homered again on a 2-1 count, scoring three runs, and Jordon Thomson tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Sean O'Hagan was credited with the victory for the Pioneers. He surrendered seven runs on three hits over five innings, striking out six.  Jayden Hamblin threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

MCC tallied three home runs on the day. Bloxham had two homers in the third inning and Manby had a four bagger in the third inning.

The Pioneers tallied 17 hits in the game. Riley, Manby, Martin, Bloxham, Kiran Carcary, and Chase Feller all had multiple hits.  Riley went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Pioneers in hits.

The Pioneers will take tomorrow off, and be back on in action on Sunday, March 10 for a doubleheader against Central Lakes College-Brainerd starting at 4:00 pm.
