Pioneers Make Quick Work Of Lumberjacks in Saturday Twin Bill

Game 1 - Pioneers 15... Lumberjacks 5 (6 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers broke a scoreless tie with 6 runs in the 3rd inning and then finshed things off in the 6th inning with 5 more runs in a 15-5 defeat of Dakota College at Bottineau in game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader. 

The Pioneers scored their 15 runs on only 7 hits and took advantage of 5 Lumberjack errors and 9 walks in the game. CF Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) had a big afternoon for MCC as he went 2-4 (HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R) and DH Tommy O'Connell (Kalispell, MT) helped out with a 1-3 effort (2B, 3 RBI). LF Grant Gabbert (Thorton, CO) was 1-1 (3 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI). Belgrade native Lane Neill drive in 2 runs with a 1-2 effort at the plate. 

The Pioneers stole 7 bases in the game as RF Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD) led the way with 3. Jake Lacey added 2 while Ryota Kusumoto and Jaeden Jordahl each had 1. 

Bo Hays (Bozeman, MT) had a strong game on the mound going 4.2 innings (2 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 10 SO). Mason Flanary (Rexburg, ID) closed the door on the Lumberjacks going 1.1 innings (3 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO). 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 13... Lumberjacks 3 (5 Innings)

MCC plated 7 runs in the 1st inning and then scored in each of the next 4 innings and the Pioneers held the Lumberjacks to only 1 hit to sweep the Saturday twinbill 13-3 in game 2. 

This game the Pioneers scored their 13 runs on only 7 hits. CF Mason Flanary was the only Pioneer with multiple hits in the game going 2-3 (2B, 2 RBI, 1 R). SS Ryota Kusumoto was 1-3 (2B, RBI, R) and 1B Tim Holyk was 1-2 (2 RBI, R). 2B Dalton Martin was 1-3 (RBI, 2 R) and DH Clay Prell scored twice on a 1-2 (2B) effort. 

Cy Miller (Helena, MT) had a strong outing on the mound going 4.1 innings (2 R, H, 2 BB, 9 SO) before giving way to Jack Corriveau for 0.2 innings (1 R, 2 BB, 1 SO). The teams will meet again tomorrow in Miles City for another doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM MST. 

The Pioneers are now 26-18 overall and 10-8 in MonDak Conference play.
