Pioneers Split Games With Western Nebraska On Windy Saturday

Game 1 - Pioneers 8... Western Nebraska 6

The MCC Pioneers took advantage of the wind blowing out of the ball yard by blasting 5 home runs in an 8-6 win over Region IX foe Western Nebraska. 

The balls started flying early in the 1st inning as Luke Wilson (C - Calgary, Alberta) singled and Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) continued his hot hitting with his 4th home run of season to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Kade Mosely (3B - Miles City, MT) quickly followed that with a home run of his own for back to back dingers. 

WNCC scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and another in the bottom of the 3rd on a solo home run to tie the score at 3-3. 

In the top of the 4th, Jace Notbohm (RF - Miles City, MT) singled and with one out Davis Mosier (DH - Billings, MT) blasted a 2-run shot to right field and a 5-3 Pioneer lead. Western Nebraska added a run in the bottom of the 4th inning but the Pioneers took control again in the top of the 5th. With one out, Parry was hit by a pitch and with two outs, Jace Notbohm hit the Pioneers 4th home run of the game to give the Pioneers a 7-4 lead. Lance Bratlien (LF - Helena, MT) gave the Pioneers their 2nd set of back to back homers with a shot to right field and an 8-4 lead. 

WNCC scored 2 more in the bottom of the 6th but could not get any closer. 

Notbohm and Mosier were the only Pioneers with multiple hits in the game. 

Trae Awbery (P - Miles City, MT) got the start and pitched 3.2 innings (4 H, 4 R, 6 BB, 7 SO) and gave way to Tyler Cutler (Helena, MT) for the next 2.1 innings (3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 SO). Jace Notbohm got the save pitching the 7th inning perfectly with 2 strikeouts.

Game 2 - Pioneers 3... Western Nebraska 17

The Pioneers could not get the bats going in game 2 of the doubleheader and Western Nebraska dropped 4 runs in the 2nd inning to give the Cougars a 5-1 lead and then piled on 12 runs in the 6th inning. MCC added a run in the 7th but the game ended early as it was scheduled for 9 innings. 

The Pioneers scored in the top of the 1st after a Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) walk and he scored after a throwing error by the WNCC pitcher. MCC got one run in the 5th inning when Jessen West (SS - Billings, MT) singled and Bickett doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Coleman Parry got an RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Pioneer run in the 7th came after a double by Cooper Morlang (Rapid City, SD) and he scored on a single by Parry. 

No Pioneer had more than one hit in the contest. 

Chase Goode (Castle Rock, CO) got the start for MCC and pitched 3.2 innings (6 H, 5 R, BB, 5 SO) before leaving the game with an arm injury. Spencer Searcy (Denver, CO) filled in for the next 1.2 innings (6 H, 9 R, 4 BB, SO) and Hayden Meehan (Columbia Falls, MT) finished the final 0.2 innings (H, 3 R, 2 BB)

The two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Game 1 is scheduled for 7 innings and game 2 is scheduled for 9 innings.
