Pioneer Baseball Splits Games on Monday in Arizona

Game 1 - Pioneers 10... Wheaton College JV 0

Brady Bickett (Rapid City, SD) pitched a 5-inning no hitter and the Pioneers broke open pitcher's dual with 9 runs in the bottom of the 5th to pull out a 10-0 win on Sunday in Tucson. 

The game was sitting at 1-0 with the Pioneers in the lead and then the bottom of the 5th took place. MCC scored it's 1st run in the bottom of the 1st inning on a Jessen West (SS - Billings, MT) single and he reached 2nd on a throwing error. West stole 3rd prior to the next batter striking out and scored on a 2-out single by Jace Notbohm (RF - Miles City, MT).

In that big 5th inning for MCC, Cooper Morlang (2B - Rapid City, SD) reached 1st on a Wheaton error. Jessen West was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Tanner Goertz (LF - Highlands Ranch, CO) singled on a bunt and Morlang scored on a error by the pitcher. West then scored on a wild pitch, then Kade Mosley (3B - Miles City, MT) and Lance Bratlien (DH - Helena, MT) walked to load the bases. Jace Notbohm drew an RBI walk and Coleman Parry was hit by a pitch for another RBI and a 5-0 lead. Spencer Searcy (CF - Denver, CO) then connected for a grand slam home run for a 9-0 Pioneer lead. After 2 more walks, Jessen West hit a RBI single to seal the win for MCC. 

Bickett's 5-inning no hitter included 13 strikeouts and only 2 walks. 

West was the only Pioneer with 2 hits in a 2-3 effort (2 R, RBI).

Game 2 - Pioneers 5... California Mirimar 17

California Mirimar got off to the hot start in game 2 on Monday, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The Pioneers quickly answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st as Brady Bickett walked with one out and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Bickett then scored on an error by the pitcher trying to pick him off. Kade Mosley and Jace Notbohm walked and they were followed by a Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) single to load the bases. Lance Bratlien drove in 2 runs with a hard ground ball single to the right side of the infield. 

Mirimar tacked on a run in the 2nd inning followed by another run in the 3rd and 4 more in the 4th inning. 

MCC cut in to that lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jessen West, Bickett, and Mosley all walked and Jace Notbohm drove home 2 with a double to leftfield and put runners on 2nd and 3rd. That double cut the lead to 10-5. 

Mirimar blew things open in the top of the 7th by scoring 7 runs to take the game 17-5. 

Taichi Fuchinaga (Honolulu, HI) got the start for the Pioneers and pitched 2 innings (4 H, 5 R, ER, 2 BB) and was replaced by Sam Hall (Eureka, MT) for the next 2 innings (6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, SO). Hayden Meehan (Columbia Falls, MT) got the next 2 innings of action (6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, SO) and Davis Mosier finished the last inning (H, R).
