Arizona Trip Ends With 2 Pioneer Wins

Game 1 - Pioneers 24... Central Lakes - Brainerd 0 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers bounced back from yesterday's doubleheader loss to Northland Tech with a resounding 24-0 win over Central Lakes-Brainerd on the final day of the spring break trip to Tucson, Arizona. 

Kade Mosley (3B - Miles City, MT) smashed a grand slam home rin in the top of the 2nd inning to break open a close game and the Pioneers added 14 runs in the 4th inning to blowout Central Lakes. Mosley was 2-4 (HR, 2 R, 6 RBI). Jace Notbohm (DH - Miles City, MT) was 2-3 (2 RBI, R, BB) and Jessen West (SS - Billings, MT) had a 2-3 (2 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB) effort that included 2 triples. Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) was 2-3 (2B, 2 RBI, R, BB) and Taichi Fuchinaga (2B - Honolulu, HI) rounded out the 2 hit parade for the Pioneers at 2-4 (RBI, 3 R, BB). 

Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) scored all 4 times he batted as he walked 3 times. Bryan Roselles (C - Rapid City, SD) had 3 RBI. 

Jacob Walker (Brisbane, Australia) had an outstanding performance on the hill for the Pioneers pitching 4 innings (2 H, 7 SO) and Mayson Shivley (Three Forks, MT) pitched a perfect last inning with one strikout. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers smacked 16 hits including 2 doubles, 2 triples, and a home run. Central Lakes had 2 hits. 
  • Pioneer pitchers struck out 8 batters and didn't walk any. Central Lakes pitchers struck out 5 Pioneers and walked 14. 
  • Central Lakes committed the only error of the game. 
  • MCC had 7 stolen bases. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... Central Lakes 2 (5 Innings)

Central Lakes started quickly by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st. 

The Pioneers picked up where they left off by scoring 5 runs in the 1st inning on only one hit as the Central Lakes pitcher walked the first 5 batters he faced. MCC scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 8-2 lead. 

MCC scored 6 times in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 14-2 lead. Chandler Smith (C - Miles City, MT) led the inning off with a single and Dyson Kinneman (Belgrade, MT) entered as a courtesy runner. Kinneman quickly stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a passed ball. Luke Wilson (RF - Calgary, Alberta) and Brady Bickett singled to put runners on the corners. Jace Notbohm was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kade Mosley walked to push in Wilson before Jessen West hit a sacrifice fly to score Bickett. Coleman Parry then hit a 2 RBI double and Mosley scored on a ground out by Fuchinaga. 

Five Pioneer pitchers combined on the 2nd no-hitter of the season for MCC. Trae Awbery (Miles City, MT) pitched inning number one (2 R, BB, 2 SO) and gave way to Max Holden (Kalispell, MT) for the next inning (3 SO). Sam Hall (Eureka, MT0 had the 3rd inning (2 SO) and Brandon Hegedus took care of the 4th inning (2 BB, SO). Jace Notbohm finished off the 5th inning by striking out the side.

  • The Pioneers had 7 hits and drew 7 walks. 
  • 5 Pioneer pitchers combined on a no-hitter allowing 3 walks. 
  • The Pioneers stole 12 bases.
  • Each team had 2 errors. 
  • Jessen West had 3 RBI without an official at bat. 
  • MCC struck out only 3 times and Central Lakes struck out 11 times. 

The Pioneers are now 10-9 on the season and will host Prairie Baseball Academy on Saturday and Sunday in Miles City. Doubleheader on Sunday begins at 1:00 PM and on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
