MCC Cruises to Two Wins on Friday Over NDSCS

Game 1 - Pioneers 13... NDSCS 1 (6 Innings)

Pioneer pitchers Max Holden (Kalispell, MT) and Mason Peters (Columbia Falls, MT) held NDSCS to only 5 hits and scoreless over the final 5 innings as MCC won game 1 on Friday afternoon 13-1 in 6 innings. 

The Pioneers got a run in the top of the 1st after Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) singled and stole 2nd. He moved to 3rd on a sacrifice fly from Jace Notbohm (DH - Miles City, MT) and scored on another sacrifice fly from Kade Mosley (3B - Miles City, MT). NDSCS got their only run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. MCC picked up a run in the 2nd inning on a Lance Bratlien (RF - Helena, MT) solo home run. 

MCC pulled away with 4 runs in the 4th inning when Mosley led the inning off with a double off the right centerfield wall. Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) walked and Jessen West (SS - Billings, MT) laid down a perfect sacrfice bunt moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Taichi Fujinaga (Hololulu, HI) walked to load the bases and Brattlien legged out an infield single to score Mosley. Tanner Goertz (Highlands Ranch, CO) singled to drive in Parry. Bickett and Notbohm each had RBI walks and the Pioneers led 6-1. 

The Pioneers picked up 2 more runs in the 5th inning on a solo home run from Parry to lead off the inning and a West walk (steal of 2nd) was followed by an RBI single from Fujinaga. The Pioneers put the game away in the 6th inning starting with Mosley reaching base on an error and moving to 3rd on a Parry single. West walked to load the bases and Fujinaga walked to drive in Mosley. Bratlien then cleared the bases with a double to centerfield. Bratlien scored on a 2-out single from Notbohm for the final tally. 

Holden pitched 4 innings (4 H, R, BB, 2 SO) and Peters finished the final 2 innings (H, BB, 2 SO).

  • MCC had 3 errors and NDSCS had 1.

Game 2 - Pioneers 13... NDSCS 3 (5 Innings)

More of the same took place in game 2 as the Pioneers scored 6 runs in the 1st inning and 5 more in the second to build an 11-0 lead and cruise to a 13-3 win in 5 innings. 3 Pioneer pitchers combined on a 2-hit, 9 strikeout performance in a dominant Pioneer win. 

Jace Notbohm got the game started on the right foot with a one out solo home run to leftfield. With 2 outs, Coleman Parry, Jessen West, and Taichi Fujinaga all walked to load the bases and Lance Bratlien hit a RBI single and the bases remained loaded. Tanner Goertz then had a RBI walk and Luke Wilson (C - Calgary, Alberta) and Brady Bickett were both hit by pitches to score 2 more runs. Notbohm walked and MCC led 6-0 after 1/2 inning.

In the 2nd inning, Parry hit a long single to rightfield and West doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Fujinaga grounded in to a fielder's choice scoring Parry. Bratlien added another RBI with a single that scored West. Fujinaga scored when Wilson grounded in to a fielder's choice and Bickett singled to drive in Brattlien. Notbohm followed with a single and Mosely drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. 

Neither team scored in the 3rd or 4th innings and the Pioneers added 2 more in the top of the 5th. Fujinaga singled with one out and Jaden Salazar (RF - Palatine, IL) hit a towering home run to rightfield. NDSCS scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th but could not keep the game going as it ended with the 10-run rule.

Trae Awbery (Miles City, MT) got the start on the mound and pitched 3 innings (H, R, 3 BB, 5 SO). Hayden Meehan (Columbia Falls, MT) pitched the 4th inning (BB, 3 SO) and Mason Manning (Sheridan, WY) closed out the game (H, 2 R, 2 BB, SO).

  • MCC drew 7 walks and NDSCS batters drew 6 walks. 
  • Only 4 Pioneer batters struck out.

MCC moved to 5-1 in MonDak Conference play and are 18-11 overall. The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM.
