Pioneers Take Care of Dawson

Pioneers Take Care of Dawson

Game 1 - Pioneers 8... Dawson 3

The MCC Pioneers got a solid pitching performance from Mason Peters (Columbia Falls, MT) and did just enough at the plate to pull off an 8-3 victory in game one on Wednesday afternoon. Peters pitched 6 innings (4 H, 3 R, 3 SO) and Chandler Smith (Miles City, MT) came in to finish a perfect 7th inning.

Lance Bratlien (RF - Helena, MT) was a perfect 2-2 (HR, 3 RBI, BB) at the plate to lead the way offensively for the Pioneers. He was the only Pioneer with more than one hit.

The Pioneers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning as the Pioneers loaded the bases with a couple of walks that sandwiched a single by Kade Mosley (3B - Miles City, MT) and then Jessen West (SS - Billings, MT) drilled a 2 RBI double to centerfield. MCC tacked on another run in the bottom of the 2nd when Bratlien led the inning off with a solo home run.

Dawson put a run up in the top of the 3rd but the Pioneers quickly answered with 3 more in the bottom of the inning for a commanding 6-1 lead. Mosley was hit by a pitch and Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) and West both reached base on errors to load the bases. Bratlien walked in a run with 2 outs and Tanner Goertz (Highlands Ranch, CO) was hit by a pitch to bring in another run. The final run of the inning came on a Dawson wild pitch that scored West.

MCC extended the lead to 8-1 in the 5th inning when Taichi Fuchinaga (Honolulu, HI) walked and scored on a single by Bratlien. Bratlien advanced to 3rd on the throw and was driven home by Goertz. Dawson scored 2 meaningless runs in the top of the 6th inning.

Game 2 - Pioneers 10... Dawson 2

Kade Mosley hit a grand slam home run in a 9-run 3rd inning barrage and that was more than enough as Pioneer pitchers Mayson Shively (Three Forks, MT) and Hayden Meehan (Columbia Falls, MT) kept the Dawson bats silent in a 10-2 win of game 2 to complete the Wednesday sweep.

MCC picked up a quick run in the top of the 1st when Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) walked and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. He quickly stole 3rd and scored on a Mosley ground out.

Jace Notbohm (LF - Miles City, MT) and Mosley walked and Coleman Parry reached on a bunt to load the bases. Notbohm scored on a fielder's choice grounder from Jessen West. Taichi Fujinaga reached on an error and Mosley scored. Lance Bratlien walked to load the bases again and West scored on a wild pitch. Brandon Hegedus (C - Littleton, CO) singled to drive in Fujinaga and Bickett followed that with another RBI single to drive in Bratlien. Notbohm was intentionally walked to load the bases and Mosley made them pay with the grand slam home run.

Dawson added 2 runs in the 4th inning and that would be the end of the scoring in the contest.

Shively pitched 5 innings (4 H, 2 R, 7 SO) and Meehan handled the last 2 (2 SO).
