No-Hitter; Big Comeback Spark Pioneers to 7th Straight Win

Game 1 - Pioneers 11... NDSCS Wildcats 1 (5 Innings)

Taichi Fujinaga (Honolulu, HI) tossed a no-hitter at his former team while Jace Notbohm (DH - Miles City, MT) homered and had 4 RBI as the Pioneers extended their winning streak to 6 games by winning game 1 11-1 on Monday afternoon. The game was a make up game from the one scheduled for March 30 that was postponed due to weather. Fujinaga transferred to Miles CC before the start of the 2023-24 school year after playing last season at NDSCS. 

NDSCS actually scored first in the 1st inning without getting a hit after their leadoff hitter walked and scored on a Pioneer error. MCC evened the score up with a run of their own in the 1st inning. 

The Pioneers took control of the game with 5 runs in the 2nd inning. Jessen West (SS - Billings, MT) singled and Jaden Salazar (LF - Chicago, IL) was hit by a pitch. They both stole the next base and scored on a Lance Bratlien (RF - Helena, MT) single. Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) was then hit by a pitch and Notbohm hit a 3-run blast to put the Pioneers up 6-1.

MCC took advantage of a couple of walks and errors in the 5th inning and ended the game early on a 2 RBI single from Kade Mosley (3B - Miles City, MT).

Fujinaga walked 2 and struck out 3 in his no-hit outing.

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... NDSCS 8

The Pioneers rallied from an 8-3 deficit on the strength of home runs from Coleman Parry (American Fork, UT) and Kade Mosley

NDSCS took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning but the Pioneers tied it in the bottom of 2nd. 

MCC took a 3-2 lead in the 3rd inning on a RBI single from Dyson Kinnaman (3B - Belgrade, MT). NDSCS then scored 3 in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th for a 8-3 lead and it looked as though an upset was in the making. 

The Pioneers got off of the ropes and rallied for 8 runs in the 5th inning starting out with a 2 RBI triple from Jaden Salazar. Salazar scored on a ground out before Lance Bratlien singled and Bryan Roselles (C - Rapid City, SD) walked. Brady Bickett doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Jace Notbohm drew a walk leading to Mosley's grand slam home run and a 11-8 Pioneer lead. 

Taichi Fujinaga walked to start the 6th inning and Coleman Parry hit his 13th home run of the season for a 13-8 lead. Brady Bickett picked up another RBI single to round out the scoring. 

Brady Bickett got the start on the mound and pitched 3 innings (5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 SO). Spencer Searcey (Denver, CO) pitched the 4th inning (3 H, 3 R, 2 BB) and Tyler Cutler had the 5th inning (H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 SO). Lance Bratlien got the final 2 innings (BB, 4 SO).

MCC still leads the MonDak Conference with a 16-2 record and are 29-12 overall. NDSCS fell to 6-8 in league play and 9-13 overall. The Pioneer game scheduled for tomorrow at Dawson has been moved to Thursday, April 25 in Glendive.
