Pioneers Lay It On Dawson in Doubleheader Sweep

Game 1 - Pioneers 8... Dawson CC 1

Pioneer pitchers held the DCC Buccaneer bats to a silent whisper and survived 3 errors in the first 4 innings and beat Dawson 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Glendive, MT.

Lance Bratlien (CF - Helena, MT) connected on his league leading 14th home run of the season and Luke Wilson (RF - Calgary, Alberta) started the game 3-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored to lead the Pioneer charge. Luke Thorne (SS - Missoula, MT) finished the game 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run score. 

The Pioneers scored a run in the 2nd inning after the Wilson triple when Cooper Morlang (2B - Rapid City, SD) knocked down a nice sacrifice bunt to score Wilson. MCC stretched the lead to 3-0 after Davis Mosier (DH - Billings, MT) was hit by a pitch, Bohden Bahnmiller (3B - Helena, MT) doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Mosier scored on a Morlang groundout and then Chandler Smith (C - Miles City, MT) had  a sacrifice bunt that brought in Bahnmiller. 

Dawson got a run in the bottom of the 4th inning but MCC answered with 4 in the top of the 5th. Bratlien led the inning off with a solo home run and then Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT) doubled. Wilson singled to put runners on the corners. Luke Thorne hit an 2 RBI single. Thorne scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch. The Pioneers final run of the game came after Bahnmiller walked, stole 2nd, and scored on Morlang's 3rd RBI of the game. 

Jay Neugebauer (Rapid City, SD) and Colin Fortier (American Fork, UT) combined on a 3-hitter in the win. Neugebauer pitched 5 innings (R, 3 H, 4 BB, 7 SO) and Fortier pitched the final 2 innings (BB, 2 SO).

Game 2 - Pioneers 23... Dawson CC 3 (6 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers laid the wood to the Dawson CC Bucs in game 2 on Wednesday afternoon in Glendive. The Pioneers racked up 11 runs in the 6th inning enrout to a 23-3 win and completed the 2-game sweep of the Buccaneers and maintain their lead in the MonDak Conference. 

Coleman Parry had a 3-4 (HR, 5 RBI, 4 R) effort at the plate and Luke Thorne was a perfect 4-4 (2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB) to lead the Pioneer charge. Lance Bratlien scored 4 runs after getting hit by pitch 4 times. Leadoff hitter Tanner Goertz (LF - Highlands Ranch, CO) was 3-5 (2B, 3 R) at the plate and Bohden Bahnmiller (3B - Helena, MT) was the other Pioneer with multiple hits going 2-4 (2B, RBI, R). 11 different Pioneers got hits in the game and 10 different players registered at least 1 RBI. 

The Pioneers kicked off the game with a 4-run 1st inning and followed that up with 3 runs in each the 2nd and 3rd inning as Parry had a 3-run home run in the 3rd. Dawson scored their only 3 runs of the game in the bottom of the 3rd but the Pioneers answered quickly with 2 more runs in the 4th inning to take a 12-3 lead. After taking the 5th inning off from scoring, MCC laced the Bucs with 11 runs in the top of the 6th inning. 

Chase Goode (Castle Rock, CO) got the start and pitched 2 innings (H, 2 BB, 5 SO). Trae Awbery (Miles City, MT) came in the 3rd inning and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and walked a batter. He was replaced by AJ Truman (Eureka, MT) for the next 2 innings (H, SO). Evan Woods (Casper, Wyoming) pitched a perfect 5th inning and Josiah Ruther (Whitefish, MT) close out the game in the 6th inning (H, SO).

The Pioneers are 13-1 in MonDak Conference play and 30-10 overall. They will head to 2nd place Williston (10-2) on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM MDT. The two teams will then come to Miles City for a doubleheader on Saturday.
