Pioneers Hold On to Beat Williston State

Miles Community College led by 19 points with roughly 5 minutes to play and held off a frantic Williston State rally as Issac Abergut (6'6 Sophomore) hit a huge 3-point basket with 55 seconds remaning as the Pioneers squeaked out a 101-93 win over the Tetons in Miles City. Abergut had a huge game with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists including 5 points in the final minute as the Pioneers (3-1, 11-8) held on for the MonDak Conference win. 

Deondre Northey (6'1 Sophomore) had a big night scoring 27 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists before fouling out with 6 minutes to play. The Pioeers led 94-75 with 4 minutes left before Williston State made its frantic run behind the efforts of Kobey Lam (6'3 Freshman) and Ethan Holt (5'9 Freshman). Lam hit for 23 points and 7 rebounds while Holt had 28 points. The Tetons struggled from the 3-point line as they connected for only 4-28. 

All 5 Pioneer starters scored in double figures as Gedeon Buzangu (6'8 Sophomore) had 16 points and 9 rebounds and Favour Chukwukelu (6'2 Freshman Guard) had 13 and Akeemis Williams (5'9 Sophomore) chipped in with 10. For the Tetons (0-4, 9-10) Jonathan Komagum (6'10 Sophomore) had 20 points and 15 rebounds in the losing effort while Nathanial Powell (6'8 Freshman) added 11. The Pioneers outrebounded the Tetons 47-40 and survived 14 second half turnovers in the victory. MCC led by as many as 23 points in the 1st half. The Pioneers will hit the road on Wednesday night to play Dakota College-Bottineau.
