Pioneers Rally for Win Over Bismarck State

Things were not looking good early in the first half as Bismarck State jumped out to a 15-2 lead early before the Miles CC Pioneers righted the ship and cut the deficit to 49-43 at halftime. Issac Abergut (6'6 Sophomore) and Akeemis Williams (5'10 Sophomore) each had a big 2nd half as Miles outscored Bismarck State 54-34 and cruised to a 97-83 win in Bismarck, ND. 

Abergut scored 18 of his 22 points in the 2nd half (10-18 FG) and grabbled 11 rebounds while Williams scored all 16 of his points after the break (6-10 FG, 4-8 3's) and the Pioneers moved to 5-2 in MonDak Conference play and 13-9 overall. The Mystics (2-5, 5-18) were led by 6'5 Freshman Jamison Kramer who came off the bench to score 26 points (20 in 1st half). The Pioneers shot 21-34 (62%) from the field in the 2nd half including an 8-15 effort from the 3-point line. The Mystics cooled off from a 51% 1st half by shooting only 11-35 (31%) in the 2nd half.

Also scoring in double figures for the Pioneers were Jayvon Lewis (5'10 Sophomore) with 15 points, 8 assists, 4 steals and Favour Chukwukelu (6'1 Freshman) had a solid night with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals. Gedeon Buzangu (6'8 Sophomore) added 10 points and 8 rebounds while Jakim Ricketts (6'2 Freshman) hit for 10 off the bench and Gabe Gundlach (6'1 Sophomore) came off the bench to score 8 points in the first half to help lead the comeback efforts. The Pioneers had 23 assists on the game while only committing 9 turnovers. 

Joe Jahner (6'1 Freshman) had 13 for the Mystics while Macauley Young (6'10 Freshman) had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Leyton Lang (6'6 Sophomore) had 11 points and 16 rebounds on the night as Bismarck State outrebounded the Pioneers 48-42. MCC will host United Tribes Tech on Monday night at the MCC Centra.
