MCC Rallies Late to Advance to Title Game

Sophomore Guard Deondre Northey poured in 30 points (9-18 FG, 11-12 FT) to lead the MCC Pioneers to a come from behind win over NDSCS 86-83 to advance to the Region 13 Championship game on Saturday in Glendive, MT. The Pioneers trailed the Wildcats 74-60 with 7:00 minutes remaining before rallying for the victory. Favour Chukwukelu (6'2 Freshman) added 20 points (5-8 FG, 4-5 3's, 6-9 FT) and Gedeon Buzangu (6'8 Sophomore), who picked up his 4th foul with 16:00 remaining, added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Akeemis Wiliams scored 8 of his 10 points in the final 10:00 of the game and hit 2 big free throws with 11 seconds remaining for the final margin of vicotry. 

NDSCS Duoth Gach 25-foot shot with 5 seconds remaining hit the front iron and the Pioneers rebounded the miss to run out the clock. Gach (6'6 Sophomore) led the Wildcats with 21 points (8-15 FG, 5-12 3's) and Diang Gatluak (6'6 Freshman) came off the bench to score 18 points (6-12 FG, 2-4 3's, 4-7 FT) and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Wilcats on the boards. MCC held a 41-34 rebounding advantage to offset the Pioneers 18 turnovers. Mohamed Kone (6'0 Sophomore) scored 13 points and Uhana Ochan (6'7 Sophomore) added 10 points and 7 rebounds. 

The Pioneers (20-11) will face regular season MonDak Conference Champion Dawson CC (25-6) Saturday night at 6:00 PM MST. The Wildcats excellent season ended at 25-6.
