Championship Run Ends on Dawson FT With 5 Seconds

Dawson Guard Camron Dunfee hit 1-2 FT with 5 seconds remaining to lift Dawson to a 96-95 thriller in the Region XIII Championship Game in Glendive, MT. In a back and forth game that saw 13 ties and 10 lead changes, Miles didn't get a good look at a game winner as Deondre Northey's off balance heave from 30 feet was off the mark. The championship contest was high energy and high intensity from start to finish. Both teams made runs at each other throughout the night and it seemed like the team that had the ball last would win.

Pioneer big man Gedeon Buzangu picked up his 5th foul on a questionable charge call with 7:00 remaining. Fellow inside player AK Kuany also fouled out as did reserve PG Jayvon Lewis. With those 3 out, the Pioneers had to finish the game with some small ball tactics. Deondre Northey (6'1 Sophomore) had another big night for MCC as he tallied 28 points (11-21 FG, 6-6 FT) and 4 assists. Freshman Favour Chukwukelu scored 19 points (6-13 FG, 4-9 3's, 3-3 FT) and Buzangu added 12 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Issac Abergut ended his Pioneer career with 13 points (4-7 FG, 3-5 3's) and 6 rebounds while AK Kuany (5-7 FG, 2-7 FT) had 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Pioneers had a 39-38 rebounding edge but committed 19 turnovers.

Dawson had 6 players in double figures led by Man Man Baker (5'10 Guard) with 14 points (6-9 FG, 2-4 FT), 5 rebounds, 4 assists. Roulervee Van (6'0 Freshman), CJ Nelson (6'0 Sophomore), and Charles Lampten (6'11 Freshman) all had 12 points. Devin Collins (6'6 Sophomore) and Beau Santisteven (6'7 Sophomore) added 11 points. Santisteven had 8 rebounds and Lampten had 7. Dawson will travel to Indian Hills CC in Ottumwa, Iowa for the North Central District Title and a trip to Hutchinson.

Miles excellent season came to an end at 20-12. The Pioneers say good bye to an excellent group of sophomores that include Deondre Northey, Akeemis Williams, Gabe Gundlach, Rylan Gauthier, Jayvon Lewis, AK Kuany, Gedeon Buzangu, and Issac Abergut
