Cold Shooting Leads to Season Opening Loss for Pioneers

Pioneers 68... Rocky Mountain College JV 79

The MCC Pioneers had a woeful shooting night and the Rocky Mountain College Bears connected on 15-28 (54%) to lead the Bears to a 79-68 victory in the Pioneers season opener.

MCC connected on only 3-20 (15%) from the 3-point line and 6-17 (35%) from the free throw line in the loss. The cold shooting opened the doors for the Bears to come to the MCC Centra and pick up the victory. Rocky also outrebounded the Pioneers 42-34 on the night. Miles shot 28-65 (43%) from the field compared to 23-53 (43%) for the Bears. Rocky also hit 18-25 (72%) from the free throw line. MCC took a pair of double digit leads in the first half only to see the 3-point shooting of the Bears bring them back in the game both times for a 33-32 Pioneer lead at the break. 8 out of the 10 FG for the Bears in the 1st half were 3-pointers.

The shooting frustrations of the Pioneers continued in the 2nd half as the Pioneers missed multiple point blank shots, went 2-12 from the 3-point line, and 6-14 from the free throw line.

MCC was led in scoring by Blessing Adesipe (Houston, TX) with 15 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3's, 2-7 FT) and Denzel Kabasele (Lancaster, PA) with 15 points (6-10 FG, 0-3 3's, 3-4 FT). Erick Barea (Celaya, Mexico) added 11 points (5-13 FG, 0-3 3's, 1-4 FT) and 5 assists. David Gorianskii (Tralee, Ireland) let the team in rebounds with 7.

Rocky had 5 guys in double figures led by Tanner Lemm with 15.

The Pioneers open conference play Friday at the MonDak Conference Tournament at 4 Bears Casino in New Town, ND against North Dakota State College of Science at 2;30 PM MST.
