Central Wyoming Holds Off Pioneer Rally

Niieihii Black (Arapahoe, WY) scored 26 points (11-17 FG, 0-1 3's, 4-6 FT) and grabbed 10 rebounds as Central Wyoming led from start to finish in a 77-62 non-conference victory in Miles City, MT on Friday night. Julian Roberts (Phoenix, AZ) added 12 points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3's, 3-4 FT) and 6 rebounds while Javonne Nesbit (Froid, MT) came off the bench to add 10 points (5-7 FG, 0-1 3's) and 4 assists. 

The Rustlers led by 16 points early in the 2nd half after a 34-21 halftime lead in a half that the Pioneers shot only 9-30 (30%) and 1-10 (10%) from the 3-point line and 2-8 (25%) from free throw line. The Pioneers cut that lead to 57-50  with about 7:00 to play but a couple of timely 3's by the Rustlers put the game out of reach for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers were led in scoring by Ben Datro (Montreal, Quebec) with 14 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 3's, 5-9 FT), 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Payton Kokot (Livingston, MT) came off the bench to score 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-5 3's, 0-1 FT) and 4 rebounds. Ethan Venema (Churchill, MT) had 8 points (3-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and led the Pioneers in rebounding with 8. Chazz Haws (Billings, MT) added 8 points as did Denzel Kabasele (Lancaster, PA).

  • The Rustlers shot 29-67 (43%) from the field and 5-16 (31%) from 3-point line. They were 13-18 from FT line. 
  • The Pioneers shot 21-62 (34%) fro the field and 5-19 (26%) from 3-point line. They were 14-25 from the FT line. 
  • The Rustlers outrebounded the Pioneers 48-42. CWC had 11 offensive boards and the Pioneers had 13. 
  • CWC had 14 turnovers and the Pioneers had 12. 

Central Wyoming is now 5-4 overall and the Pioneers fell to 2-7. The Pioneers host Northwest College on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
