Northwest College Uses Late Run to Surge Past Pioneer Men

In a game filled with runs, the Northwest College Trappers made the final push on Friday night for a 87-72 win in Powell, WY. The Pioneers got off to a strong start and led 17-7 5 minutes in to the game. The Trappers turned the tides shortly after that and turned out a 41-31 halftime lead. MCC quickly started out the 2nd half by tying the game at 46-46 before Northwest College pushed away from a close game for the final margin. 

Northwest College was led by Davion McAdam (6'1 Sophomore) with 28 points (9-20 FG, 4-9 3's, 6-8 FT) and 7 assists, and 4 steals. They got 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 FT) and 5 rebounds off the bench from Mack Page (6'4 Freshman). David Ayala (6'6 Sophomore) chipped in 12 points (6-10 FG, 0-3 3's), 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. 

The Pioneers had a balanced scoring effort led by Blessing Adesipe (6'6 Sophomore) with 18 points (5-16 FG, 2-6 3's, 6-9 FT), 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Ben Datro (6'1 Sophomore) had 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-3 3's) and 8 rebounds while Ethan Venema (6'7 Freshman) had 10 points (2-3 FG, 6-7 FT) and 8 rebounds. Payton Kokot (6'3 Freshman) came off the bench to score 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-7 3's).

  • The Pioneers shot 24-51 (47%) from the field and 11-23 (48%) from the 3-point line. MCC was 13-18 from the foul stripe.
  • The Trappers shot 32-71 (45%) from the field and 6-19 (32%) from the 3-point line. HTey were 17-22 from the free throw line. 
  • NWC outrebounded the Pioneers 33-31 with 10 of those rebounds being offensive. MCC had only 4 offensive boards. 
  • MCC had 17 turnovers that led to 25 Trapper points. NWC had only 6 turnovers. 

The Trappers moved to 12-5 on the season and the Pioneers fell to 3-12. The last non conference game for the Pioneers will be January 5 at Central Wyoming College before starting conference play again.
