Pioneers Falter Late In Loss at Bottineau

Brendan Redhead and Jacob Smith led a late come from behind charge as Dakota College at Bottineau outlasted the MCC Pioneers 89-82 on Sunday afternoon at the Woodshed in Bottineau, ND.

After being tied 39-39 at the half, the Pioneers came out of the locker room and built an 11-point lead with 11:00 remaining in the game. Redhead and Smith then did the majority of their damage in the final 10 minutes as the Lumberjacks moved to 9-2 in MonDak Conference play and 16-4 overall. Redhead (6'0 Freshman) hit 10-14 from the field, 1-4 from 3-point line, and 6-6 from the free throw line. Redhead also had 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Smith (6'6 Forward) hit 11-19 FG, 1-4 3's, 2-3 FT and collected 15 rebounds (10 Offensive). Max Groom (6'2 Freshman) helped out with 14 points (5-13 FG, 2-4 3's, 2-2 FT) and Loukas Triantis (6'2 Sophomore) added 11 points (3-12 FG, 1-6 3's, 4-5 FT).

The Pioneers, who have struggled to come out on top of a close game lately, could not hold on to a late lead as they fell to 2-9 in MonDak Conference play and 3-17 overall. A quartet of Pioneers scored in double digits on Sunday afternoon. Blessing Adesipe (6'6 Sophomore) scored 22 points (6-17 FG, 2-8 3's, 8-9 FT) and grabbled a team high 9 rebounds. Ben Datro (6'1 Sophomore) scored a season high 19 points (8-15 FG, 3-5 3's, 0-2 FT) to go along with 7 rebounds. Denzel Kabasele (6'2 Sophomore) added 15 points (6-13 FG. 1-3 3's, 2-2 FT) and Payton Kokot (6'3 Freshman) added 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-7 3's).
