Pioneer Men Get 1st Win of 2023 at Lake Region State

Denzel Kabasele (6'3 Sophomore) scored 19 points (8-17 FG, 3-7 3's), grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists and the Pioneers used a strong defensive effort to upend Lake Region State 66-45 on Sunday afternoon in Devils Lake, ND. The win was the first of 2023 for the Pioneers and snapped a 7-game losing streak. 

The Pioneers went on a 14-0 run in the 1st half after trailing 15-8 to help build a 26-19 halftime bulge. The Pioneers controlled the 2nd half with some timely 3-point shooting and a a stong effort defensively. 

Payton Kokot (6'3 Freshman) scored a career high 17 points (6-17 FG, 5-15 3's, 0-1 FT) and helped out with 5 rebounds. Blessing Adesipe (6'6 Sophomore) had 16 points (5-14 FG, 3-7 3's, 3-3 FT) and 7 rebounds in the win. 

Lake Region was led by Mayson Brown (6'1 Sophomore) with 21 points (7-14 FG, 3-8 3's, 4-6 FT) and Blessed Barhayiga (6'8 Freshman) added 11 points (3-8 FG, 5-6 FT) and 7 rebounds. Denver Lund (6'8 Freshman) had 9 rebounds to lead the Royals.
