Pioneers Get Off to Slow Start in New Town

The MCC Pioneer basketball season got off to a slow start in New Town, ND at the MonDak Conference Tipoff tournament against the NDSCS Wildcats. 

The Wildcat defense held the Pioneers to only 50 points and forced 22 turnovers in the season opener. 

The Pioneers were led in scbouroring by Koak Kok (Ulan, South Sudan) with 15 points (6-12 FG) and Kok also had 6 rebounds in the game. Ethan Bell (Chinook, MT) added 10 points (4-10 FG, 0-3 3's, 2-4 FT) and 3 steals. Aguir Dawam (Melbourne, Australia) led the team with 3 assists.

  • The Pioneers committed 22 turnovers and the Wildcats had 18.
  • MCC shot only 7-18 (39%) from the free throw line and NDSCS was 18-31 (58%).
  • NDSCS hit 8-24 (33%) from the 3-point line while the Pioneers were only 1-9.
