Pioneers Nab 1st Win of Season on Final Day of MonDak Tipoff

The MCC Pioneer basketball team bounced back from a tough 3-point loss on Saturday to Williston State with a hard fought 71-67 win over Bismarck State on the final day of the MonDak Conference Tipoff tournament in New Town, ND. 

The contest saw multiple ties and lead changes throughout the contest with neither team leading by more than 5 points. 

The Pioneers got 22 points (9-16 FG, 4-5 FT) and 6 rebounds from Aguir Dawam (6'7 Sophomore) leading 4 players in double figures. Payton Kokot (6'3 Sophomore) tallied 12 points (4-10 FG, 2-4 3's, 2-3 FT) and Ethan Venema (6'7 Sophomore) added 10 points (5-12 FG, 0-1 3's), 6 rebounds, 5 blocks. Kris Englis (6'1 Freshman) added 10 points (2-3 FG, 6-11 FT). 

The Mystics got 14 points (2 3's, 4-4 FT) from Anthony Bertucci (6'3 Sophomore) and 11 points from Raymond Brown. Gavyn Strand added 10 points (2 3's). 

MCC is now 1-2 on the season and will host Northwest College on Friday at 7:00 PM. The Pioneers will then host Gillette College at 4:00 PM on Saturday.
