Pioneers Squeak Out a Victory in Home Opener

The MCC Pioneers battled back from a 24-38 halftime deficit and held the Northwest College Trappers to 20 2nd half points enroute to an exciting 59-58 win in the home opener for MCC.

Payton Kokot (6'3 Sophomore) led the Pioneers in scoring with 14 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 3's, 2-2 FT) and also grabbed 6 rebounds while Aguir Dawam (6'7 Sophomore) added 12 points (5-6 FG, 1-1 3's, 1-2 FT) and a team leading 7 rebounds. 

The Trappers had only one player in double figures as Kolter Merritt (6'2 Sophomore) scored 17 points (7-13 FG, 0-1 3's, 3-6 FT). Kaden Christensen (6'5 Freshman) had 7 rebounds to lead NWC. 

The Pioneers shot 56% from the field in the 2nd half and held the Trappers to only 7 FG in the 2nd half.

  • The Pioneers shot 24-52 (46%) from the field and 7-21 (33%) from 3-point range. The Trappers were 20-57 (35%) and 4-15 (27%) from 3-point range. 
  • MCC shot only 4-6 at FT line and NWC was 14-18. 
  • MCC had 28 turnovers and NWC had 20. 
  • The Pioneers outrebounded the Trappers 35-32. MCC had 6 offensive boards and NWC had 9. 

The Pioneers are now 3-1 on the season and play Gillette College at 4:00 PM Saturday in Miles City.
