Pioneers Finish Perfect Week With Win Over Rocky Mountain JV

Things were looking bleak early in the game for the MCC Pioneers. Rocky Mountain College came in to the MCC Centra and built a 15-point lead just 5 minutes in the contest with a flurry of 3's and transition baskets. The Pioneers settled themselves and cut the Rocky lead to 45-42 at halftime and then outscored the Bears 48-36 in the half to finish the week 3-0. 

Six Pioneers hit in double figures in a balanced scoring attack led by 6'3 sophomore guard Payton Kokot (Livingston, MT) with 16 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3's, 6-6 FT). Ethan Venema (6'7 Sophomore) added 15 points (7-13 FG, 0-1 3's, 1-2 FT), 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Ethan Bell (6'0 Sophomore) hit for 13 points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3's, 4-4 FT) to go along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Aguir Dawam (6'7 Sophomore) registered a double-double with 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-1 FT) and 10 rebounds and Jalen Robinson (6'1 Freshman) came off the bench to score 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-3 3's). Daniel Piech Meat (6'6 Sophomore) had 10 points (3-7 FG, 4-4 FT) off the bench. 

The Bears were led by Luca Brooks (6'2 Guard) with 35 points (13-30 FG, 5-13 3's, 4-4 FT) and 9 rebounds. Liam Romei (6'2 Guard) added 16 points (6-17 FG, 2-8 3's, 2-10 FT).

  • The Pioneers shot 32-59 (54%) from the field and 7-16 (44%) from the 3-point line. The Bears were 31-77 (40%) from the field and 10-36 (28%) from the 3-point line. 
  • MCC shot 19-21 at the free throw line and the Bears were 9-20. 
  • MCC turned the ball over 23 times to only 7 for the Bears. 
  • MCC outrebounded Rocky 48-35. MCC had 6 offensive rebounds and the Bears had 11. 

The Pioneers are now 6-2 on the season and will resume MonDak Conference play on Wednesday night in Miles City against Dakota College at Bottineau. Tip off for the contest is set for 5:30 PM MST.
