Second Half Surge Pushes Pioneers Past Lake Region State

The MCC Pioneers found themselves tied 37-37 at the halftime break on Thursday afternoon for MidRivers Communication's elementary school day at the MCC Centra. The Pioneers came out of the locker room and scored the first 10 points of the 2nd half and stretched the lead to 17 points with 5:00 to play and walked away with a 87-76 MonDak Conference victory. 

The Pioneers pushed 5 players into double figures in a balanced scoring attack that saw MCC score 50 points after the break on 53% shooting from the field. Ethan Bell (6'0 Sophomore) led the way for the Pioneers with 19 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 3's, 9-9 FT) to go along with 6 rebounds. Ethan Venema (6'7 Sophomore) had a big game with 17 points (6-13 FG, 1-3 FG, 4-5 FT) while adding 7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Daniel Piech Meat (6'6 Sophomore) came off the bench to score 14 points (3-7 FG, 8-10 FT) to go along with 7 rebounds. Aguir Dawam (6'7 Sophomore) added 11 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3's, 3-5 FT) and 8 rebounds. Payton Kokot (6'3 Sophomore) chipped in 10 points (4-5 FG, 1-2 3's, 1-2 FT). 

Lake Region State got 22 points (3-13 FG, 1-2 3's, 15-17 FT) from Noah Bonick (6'2 Sophomore). Blessed Barhayiga (6'8 Sophomore) scored 13 points (5-16 FG, 0-1 3's, 3-5 FT) in the paint for the Royals. Harrison Raynor (6'2 Sophomore) scored 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-4 3's). Alvin Jones (6'2 Freshman) scored 10 points (4-5 FG, 1-2 3's, 1-2 FT). Ginuwine Tropnas (6'9 Freshman) had 8 points and a team high 11 rebounds.

The Pioneers moved to 8-6 in MonDak Conference play and 12-11 overall. Lake Region fell to 2-12 in league play and 6-17 overall. MCC will host North Dakota State College of Science on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
