Another Second Half Goes Awry for Pioneer Women

The MCC Pioneers had the MonDak Conference leading Williston State Tetons leaning on the ropes at halftime as the Pioneers headed to the locker room with a 45-37 lead. 

Unfortunately for the Pioneers, they awoke the sleeping giant of the one-loss Tetons as Williston State outscored the Pioneers 56-24 in the 2nd half. The Tetons heated up their full court press in the 3rd quarter and outscored MCC 29-8 in the period to take a 66-53 lead into the 4th quarter. Williston kept the momentum going in the 4th outscoring MCC 27-26 in the period and leading by as many as 26 points in the 2nd half. 

The Tetons had a balanced scoring attack plqdint 5 players in double figures led by Canzas Hisbadhorse with 17 points (5-14 FG, 2-7 3's, 5-6 FT) to go along with 4 rebounds. Taylor Moffatt (4-8 FG, 3-5 3's, 3-3 FT) and Cami Harris (4-8 FG, 3-7 3's, 3-3 FT) each scored 14 points and both had 4 rebounds for the victors. Allison Kunze came off the bench to score 12 points (3-7 FG, 6-9 FT) and Allie Garcia added 10 points (3-6 FG, 4-4 FT). 

The Pioneers got a big game from Lainey Smith (Miles City, MT) tallying 26 points (8-14 FG, 6-10 3's, 4-4 FT). Brae Eneboe (Conrad, MT) added 13 points (4-7 FG, 5-6 FT) and 3 assists. Becky Melcher (Forsyth, MT) was the leader in rebounds with 5. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers shot 20-49 (41%) from the field and 6-15 from the 3-point line. MCC got some help at the free thow line going 23-26 (89%).
  • The Tetons shot 29-59 (49%) from the field and 9-23 (39%) from the free throw line. WSC was also solid at the free throw line going 26-34 (77%). 
  • Williston outrebounded the Pioneers 31-24. WSC had 9 offensive rebounds and MCC had 5. 
  • The Pioneers committed 19 turnovers and Williston committed 14. 
  • Williston State scored 28 points off of MCC turnovers. 

 Williston is now 16-1 in MonDak Conference play and 23-3 overall. The Pioneers fell to 3-14 in MonDak play and are 6-20 overall. MCC gets back on the bus Wednesday as they head to Bottineau to play Dakota College at 4:30 PM MST.
