Pioneer Shooting Cold as the Arctic Air in Loss at Bottineau

The MCC Pioneers picked a bad time to have it's coldest shooting night of the MonDak Conference season connecting on only 33% of shots attempted in a 82-71 loss in Bottineau, ND on Wednesday night. 

The Pioneers hit only 10-33 field goals in the first half that included only 2-13 clip at the 3-point line. The 2nd half didn't get much better as the Pioneers found a way to keep the game close despite shooting only 12-32 in the 2nd half. All in all, the Pioneers hit only 2-21 from the 3-point line for the game. The Lumberjacks jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead and never looked back in the contest. 

Brendan Redhead (6'0 Sophomore) scored 21 points (8-23 FG, 3-11 3's, 2-4 FT) and had 8 rebounds in the win. Max Groom (6'2 Sophomore) had 13 points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3's, 4-4 FG), 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Danny Lazic (6'8 Freshman) also had 13 points (4-10 FG, 2-5 3's, 3-4 FT) and 8 rebounds. Shaun Armstrong (6'2 Freshman) had 12 points (4-5 FG, 3-3 3's, 1-1 FT) off the bench and Brayden West-Linnett scored 10 points (3-8 Fg, 2-6 3's, 2-2 FT)

Aguir Dawam (6'8 Sophomore) led MCC with 22 points (5-15 FG, 0-2 3's, 12-14 FT), 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Kris English (6'1 Freshman) added 14 points (3-7 FG, 0-2 3's, 8-8 FT) and Koak Kok (6'7 Freshman) had 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-3 FT).

  • The Pioneers hit 22-65 (33%) from the field and just 2-21 from the 3-point line. MCC did hit 25-27 at the free throw line. 
  • The Lumberjacks shot 27-67 (40%) from the field and 13-33 from the 3-point line. DCB hit 15-22 at the free throw line. 
  • DCB outrebounded the Pioneers 40-34 and each team had 8 offensive rebounds. 
  • The Pioneers committed 13 turnovers and the Lumberjacks had 11.

Dakota College moved to 8-10 in MonDak Conference play and are 16-11 overall. The Pioneers fell to 9-9 in MonDak Confernece play and 13-14 overall. MCC hits the road again on Sunday afternoon traveling to Devils Lake, ND for a game against Lake Region State College at 2:00 PM MST.
