Pioneer Rodeo Gets Wins in Team Roping and Bull Riding

The MCC Pioneer Men's Rodeo team used some strong individual performances to get a 2nd place team finish at the MSU-Northern rodeo in Havre over the weekend.

The roping combination of Daylon Danks (Mandaree, ND) and Dawson Jackson (Delisle, Saskatchewan) won the long go with a time of 5.8 seconds and then finished 3rd in the short go at 8.2 seconds which was good enough to win the average and 1st place in team roping. Owen Carslon (Pine River, MN) won both the long go and the short go to take a victory in bull riding.

Spur Owens (Helena, MT) won the short go in the bareback riding competition with a score of 77. Owens didn't point in the long go and finished outside of the top 3 in the average. Cole Trexler (Corvallis, MT) finished 4th overall in tie down roping (21.1) with a 4th place finish (10.2) in the long go and 6th place (10.9) in short go.

The roping team of Blayne Hubing (Circle, MT) and Cody Acord (Gillette, WY) finished 4th in the long go (8.0) but didn't catch in the short go. That was still enough for a 6th place finish in the event.

The Pioneers finished with a total of 330 points to finish behind Montana State's 495.

On the women's side, MCC failed to score but Mary Gibson (Havre, MT) qualified for the short round of goat tying but finished outside of the points in long, short, and average. Hillie Smith (Rapid City, SD) finished 3 spots out of qualifying for the short round in goat tying.

MCC fill finish it's fall rodeo season with the University of Montana-Western event in Dillon, MT September 30-October 1.
