Pioneer Cowboys Compete at CNFR

Pioneer Cowboys Compete at CNFR

Four MCC Pioneer cowboys hit the road to Casper, Wyoming to compete at the College National Finals Rodeo June 11-17 at the Casper Events Center.

Owen Carlson (Pine River, MN) was bucked off of all 3 bulls in the bull riding competition. According to head coach Sylvan LaCross, Carlson has had a nagging injury (torn labrum in hip) that has hindered Carlson's performance. Carlson is set to have surgery in October after the fall rodeo schedule concludes.

Daylon Danks (Mandaree, ND) and Dawson Jackson (Delisle, Saskatchewan) qualified in the team roping competition but were snake bit all week according to LaCross. They drew some hard running steers and had some issues with their loops and did not catch a steer in any of the 3 rounds.

Cameron Handy (Recluse, WY) teamed up with Montana State University cowboy Hayden Taylor and placed 7th in the 2nd round of team roping. After missing their steer in round one they still had a chance to make the short go but didn't catch their steer in round 3 and that killed off their chances of advancing to finals.

According to LaCross the trip to the CNFR was "domewhat disheartening to see them go out like this. They are all grateful for the experience they have gained. This is one of the biggest stages that they will see, and they deserved to be here. That's just rodeo. A gamble of a lifestyle."
