Northwest College Rodeo #1
Pioneer Women - 3rd Place - 246 Points
The 2023 fall NIRA Big Sky Region rodeo season kicked off last weekend at the Northwest College rodeo in Powell, Wyoming. The MCC Pioneer women's team got off to its strongest start in several years with a solid 3rd place finish in rodeo #1 on September 8. MCC tallied 246 points as MSU-Northern took the women's title with 563.5 points and Montana State took 2nd with 268.5 points.
Taylor Burgee (Freshman - Onida, SD) finished in 3rd place for the women's all-around competition with 233 points. Burgee was the champion in breakaway roping with a time of 2.8 seconds and also finished 4th in barrel racing with a time of 17.8 seconds. Katie Anderson (Freshman - Rockglen, Saskatchewan) took an 8th place finish in goat tying with a time of 8.7 seconds.
Pioneer Men - 6th Place - 177 Points
The Pioneer men's rodeo team tallied 177 points for a 6th place finish as Montana State took the team title with 384 points.
Freshman Marshall Senger (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) won the bull riding competition with a score of 67 points. Blayne Hubing (Circle, MT) notched a 7th place finish in Tie Down Roping with a time of 14.8 seconds.
Northwest College Rodeo #2
Pioneer Women - 2nd Place - 233 Points
The Pioneer women's team reeled in a 2nd place finish with 233 points as Montana State outdistanced the competition with 466.66 points. Sophomore Mary Gibson (Havre, MT) finished in 2nd place for women's all-around title earning a tie for 2nd place in breakaway roping with a time of 3.1 seconds and also had a 2nd place finish in goat tying with a time of 7.7 seconds. Cierra Vons Cooper (Reno, NV) finished in a tie for 6th place in goat tying with a time of 8.2 seconds.
Pioneer Men - 6th Place - 32 Points
The MCC Pioneer men scored only 32 points in rodeo #2 as Montana State outdistanced the competition with 733.5 points. Grady Larson (Sidney, MT) had a 7th place finish in tie down roping and was the only placer for the Pioneers in rodeo #2.
The Pioneer rodeo teams will head to Havre, MT for 2 rodeos at the MSU-Northern rodeo on Thursday-Sunday (September 21-24).
