Pioneer Compete in Home Rodeos

Rodeo #1 - April 18-19

Taylor Burgee (Onida, SD) had the hometown crowd at the MCC Ag Advancement Center rocking with her Breakaway Roping performance on Friday night. Burgee won the short go with a time of 2.4 seconds and finished 4th place in the average for MCC Rodeo #1. That finish along with the performances of Tycie Phalen, Mary Gibson, and Katie Anderson led the Pioneer women to a 3rd place finish with 203.333 points in Rodeo #1. Montana State University took 1st place with 600 points and MSU-Northern took 2nd with 245 points. 

Tycie Phalen (Miles City, MT) was strong in Barrel Racing finishing 3rd in the short go with a time of 13.98 and backed that up with a 5th place performance in the long go with a time of 14.1 to finish in 3rd place in the average with a total time of 28.08. 

Mary Gibson (Havre, MT) and Katie Anderson (Rockglen, Saskatchewan) performed well in Goat Tying as Gibson finished 6th place in the short go with a time of 7.4 seconds and Anderson finished 6th place in the long go with a time of 7.3.

The Pioneer men did not fair as well in Rodeo #1 accumulating only 130 points. Ashton Frei (Killdeer, ND) was the lone Pioneer to score on the men's side getting his points in Saddle Bronc Riding. Frei was 4th in the long go with a score of 46 and backed that up with a short go score of 55 to finish 2nd. Those 2 finishes gave Frei a 2nd place finish in the overall with a total score of 101. 

 

Rodeo #2 - April 20-21

Rodeo #2 did not go as well for the Pioneers. On the women's side, only 2 Pioneers were able to place in the rodeo. Ryley Bice (Miles City, MT) tied for 1st place in the short go for Breakaway Roping with a time of 1.9 seconds. That finish along with 2.6 second run in the long go helped Bice to a 2nd place finish in the average with a time of 4.5 (0.1 behind 1st place finisher). 

Mary Gibson (Havre, MT) tied for 5th place in the short go of Goat Tying with a time of 7.1 seconds. Gibson tied for 6th place in the long go with a time of 6.8. Her total time of 13.9 seconds was good for a 5th place tie in the average. 

The MCC women scored only 30 points in Rodeo #2 and finished in 5th place. University of Montana - Western won the team event with 290 points and Montana State finished 2nd with 280 points. Dawson and Northwest College did not score in rodeo #2. 

The Pioneer men finished in 7th place with 60 points on the shoulders of Ashton Frei in Saddle Bronc Riding again. Frei was 4th place in the long go with a score of 54. Frei did not score in the long go but his score of 54 with one completed ride was good for a 4th place finish in the average. 

The Pioneers will finish the spring rodeo season on Friday and Saturday in Missoula at the University of Montan rodeo. They will then wait to see who qualifies for the CNFR in Casper, Wyoming from June 9-15.
