Pioneer Softball Splits Games in Minot

The Miles CC Pioneer softball team got its inaugural season started in grand fashion as it took a big 12-2 win in 5 innings over the Lake Region State Royals. In the Pioneers first game in school history, the offense was clicking to the tune of 12 runs in just 5 innings. MCC had 9 hits on the game as Aly Radford (Idaho Falls, ID) and Regan Harper (Billings, MT) each had 2 hits on the afternoon. 

Miles scored first in the 1st inning on a bases loaded walk by Meghan Krantz (Cheney, WA) and tallied 4 runs in the 4th inning as Radford and Janie Nelson (Teton Valley, ID) each had RBI's in the 4th. Kassidy Kinzie (Plains, MT) started the game pitching for the Pioneers and gave up 2 hits and no runs over the first 2 innings as she struck out four Royals. Kyla Johnson (Hamer, ID) then took the circle for the final three innings and earned the win as she allowed 3 hits, 2 runs, with 1 strikeout, and 1 walk.  

The Pioneers then took on Dawson in its 2nd game of the day and fell 6-1 to the defending conference champion Buccaneers. The big inning for the Bucs was the third and they trotted 4 runs across in the inning. The Pioneers could only muster up 4 hits on the game against DCC starter Shelby Martin. Meghan Krantz, Kassidy Kinzie, Sanoe Samante (Ewa Beach, Hawaii), and Taylor Woolley (Post Falls, ID) each had hits for the Pioneers. 

Kassidy Kinzie started the game in the circle for MCC going 3 innings. Kinzie allowed 5 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1 Buccaneer. Kyla Johnson came on in relief and allowed 2 hits in 1 inning of work. 

The Pioneers will play Sunday afternoon against Williston State in the final game in Minot. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM MST.
