Pioneer Softball Drops 2 in Yakima

Game 1

The Miles Community College Softball team entered the bottom of the 6th inning of game one with a 7-4 lead. By the time that frame ended, Yakima Valley had trampled 5 runs across the plate and held on for a 9-7 win over MCC Sunday afternoon in Yakima, Washington. 

Megan Krantz (Cheney, WA) went 3-4 with 3 RBI and Tessa Della Silva (Hamilton, MT) was 2-4 with 2 RBI but it wasn't enough in this game to hang on for the victory. Kyla Johnson (Hamer, Idaho) started the game in the circle and pitched 4 innings. She gave up 4 runs on 5 hits while walking 5 batters. Kassidy Kinzie (Plains, MT) came on in relief in the 5th inning but gave up 5 runs on 4 hits. Only 2 of those runs were earned as the Pioneer defense committed 4 errors on the day.

Autumn Porter (Miles City, MT) and Regan Harper (Billings, MT) drove in the other runs for the Pioneers. 

 

Game 2 

Yakima Valley CC went crazy in the 2nd inning by scoring 8 runs and dominating the MCC Pioneers 12-4 on Sunday to sweep the 2 game series in Yakima. Megan Krantz got things going on a strong note with a solo home run in the 1st inning as Krantz knocked in 2 of the 4 runs for the Pioneers. Ashlin Hiller (Lolo, MT) knocked in the other 2 runs with a single in the 4th inning. 

The Pioneers had a tough time in the circle getting Yakima batters out. Regan Harper started the game and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits in only 1 inning of work. Taylor Woolley came in and gave up 6 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and didn't register an out. Kyla Johnson finished out the game in 4 innings of work Johnson surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. 

The Pioneers are now 3-4 on the season and will take on North Idaho College on Tuesday in Couer d' Alene, Idaho.
