Pioneer Softball Loses Opener to Lake Region; Beats Bismarck State

Game 1 - Pioneers 3... Lake Region State 9

Lake Region State used timely hitting, solid pitching, and some MCC Pioneer errors to advance in the winners bracket of the Region XIII West Tournament in Glendive. The Royals defeated the Pioneers 9-3 on the legs of a 5-run 4th inning after the Pioneers had tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 3rd. 

The Pioneers only offense of the day came in the 3rd inning when RF Reagan Harper legged out a double on a hit to right field. SS Abby Johnson belted a double to center field that scored Harper and that was followed up with a 2-run blast by CF Autumn Porter to tie the game at 3. MCC could not push any other runs across the plate as they struck out 6 times in the game and couldn't get a timely hit. Kelealani Waiau had 2 doubles in the game but the team was unable to drive her in. 

Kassidy Kinzie got the start in the circle and pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits. She struck out 3 and walked 3. Waiau came in to finish things off but gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. 

The loss put the Pioneers in the loser's bracket and a match up with Bismarck State and MCC will have to win 3 in a row of the losers bracket to advance to the Region XIII championships. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 17 ... Bismarck State 1

With the season on the line following a disappionting loss to Lake Region State, the Pioneer bats smacked 16 hits for 17 runs in only 4 innings to advance in loser out play at the Region XIII West playoffs. The Pioneers scored all of their runs in the first 3 innings of a 17-1 victory. 

Kassidy Kinzie was stellar in the circle tossing a 2-hitter while striking out 8 in the complete game victory. The Pioneers smacked 7 doubles and stole 9 bases in the lopsided contest. 2B Tessa Della Silva had 2 doubles in a 2-3 effort at the plate that included 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. SS Abby Johnson was 3-3 witha double 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored. CF Autumn Porter was 3-4 with a double and 3 runs scored and DP Megan Toplovich was 2-3 with a double, and RBI, and 3 runs scored. 

MCC will face Williston State at 12:00 PM Wednesday in loser out action. Two victories on Wednesday would put the Pioneers in the championship contest.
