Pioneer Softball Splits With NDSCS on Day 1

Game 1 - Pioneers 1... NDSCS 0

  • The MCC Pioneers could only muster up 2 hits in game one on Saturday afternoon. RF Reed Johnson (Columbus, MT) did all the damage with a solo shot in the 2nd inning that proved to be the game winner in a pitcher's duel in in Miles City. The games were supposed to be played in Wahpeton but moved to MC due to inclement weather in ND.

  • Hazel Eaton threw a shutout to lead Miles CC Softball past NDSCS 1-0 on Saturday.
  • The pitching was strong on both sides. Eaton struck out four, while NDSC pitcher Katelyn Strauss sat down 12.
  • Eaton allowed six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
  • Johnson and Liz Ybarra (Belgrade, MT) were the only Pioneers to get a hit in the game. 
  • Billie Donohue led NDSCS with two hits in three at bats. NDSCS didn't commit a single error in the field. 

Game 2 - Pioneers 6... NDSCS 8

  • Saturday's game against NDSCS was a heartbreaker for Miles CC Softball as the the Pioneers lost the lead late in an 8-6 defeat. The game was tied at 6-6 with NDSCS batting in the top of the sixth when Max Ebel singled on a 2-1 count scoring two runs for the final 8-6 margin.
  • Despite the loss, Miles CC Softball did collect 11 hits in the high-scoring affair and NDSCS had eight hits on the way to victory.
  • Miles CC Softball captured the lead in the second inning. Sierra John doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
  • NDSCS knotted the game up at six in the top of the fifth inning. NDSCS scored two runs when Billie Donohue homered.
  • After NDSCS scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Miles answered with two of their own. NDSCS scored when Ellie Miller singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run and Noelle Forstner singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Miles then answered when HaiLeigh Davis doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and Liz Ybarra's sac fly scored one run for Miles.
  • Ashley Bisping led things off on the rubber for NDSCS. The hurler lasted three and a third innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out three and walking one.
  • Alex Carr (Idaho Falls, ID) came in after only one batter and pitched 7 innings in relief.
  • Miles hit one home run in the game as Abby Johnson (Hamilton, MT)  had a four bagger in the 1st inning.
  • The PIoneers racked up 11 hits. Megan ToplovichJohnLilinoe Nihi, and Johnson all collected multiple hits for Miles CC SoftballToplovich went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Miles CC Softball in hits.
  • NDSCS racked up eight hits on the day. Donohue and Forstner each collected multiple hits for NDSCS. Donohue led NDSCS with three hits in three at bats. The Pioneers are now 5-1 in MonDak play and 12-6 overall. 
  • The teams will meet again on Sunday starting at 11:00 AM.
