Dawson Quiets Pioneer Bats in Softball Sweep

Game 1 - Pioneers 1... Dawson 13 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers scrapped together only 4 hits and the DCC Bucs scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and 9 more in the 4th to run away with a 13-1 victory on Friday afternoon in Miles City. The Bucs chased Pioneer starter Hazel Eaton (Belgrade, MT) after 3.2 innings as Eaton gave up 12 runs on 12 hits. Eaton struck out one and walked one along the way. 

The only Pioneer with multiple hits was LF Liz Ybarra (Belgrade, MT) and C HaiLeigh Davis (Shepherd, MT) drove in the only Pioneer run of the day with an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th with the Pioneers trailing 13-0 at the time. 1B Lili Nihi had the only other Pioneer hit in the game. 

Bucs starter Deven Creech pitched a complete game 4-hitter and gave up only one run while striking out 5 Pioneers. She also walked 4 batter but MCC could not get any offense going. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 0... Dawson 1

One swing of the bat was all it took as Dawson centerfielder Tyra Coats led off the game with a solo HR to leftfield and the Bucs got out of multiple jams the rest of the way to walk out of MidRivers Field with a sweep of the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers outhit the Bucs 9-5 in the game but couldn't come up with the timely hit or run to get on the board. MCC had a runner on 3rd in each of the first 5 innings but got thrown out at home or couldn't get the timely base hit to score a run. 

CF Skyler Higgs (Livingston, MT) and 1B Lili Nihi (Moanalua, HI) each had 2 hits for MCC while Liz Ybarra and HaiLeigh Davis each doubled but could not cross the plate to get Dawson starter Alison Eldridge in any trouble in the circle. 

Eldridge allowed 9 hits over 7 innings and struck out only one Pioneer. She walked 2. Pioneer starter Madi Henry (Spanish Fork, UT) was solid in the circle for the Pioneers but picked up the loss in the game. She gave up only the solo home run in the 1st and 5 hits. She only walked one batter. 

This was the Pioneers 5th consecutive loss as the fell to 5-5 in MonDak Conference play and 12-10 overall. They will host Williston State Saturday at 12:00 and 2:15 PM MST.
