Rough Day at Dawson as Pioneer Softball Drops 2

Game 1 - Pioneers 4... Dawson 12 (5 Innings)

In what was a tight game for 4.5 innings turned to a nightmare in the bottom of the 5th as Dawson CC scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th to break away from a 5-4 lead to start the inning for a 12-4 victory over the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers could only come up with 5 hits in the game led by a 2-2 (2 RBI) effort from 3B Megan Johnson (Preston, ID) and 2 RBI by C HaiLeigh Davis (Shepherd, MT). Lilinoe Nihi (Moanalua, HI) and Skyler Higgs (Livingston, MT) and the other hits for MCC. 

Madi Henry (Spanish Fork, UT) got the start in the circle and gave up 12 runs (14 H, 3 BB, 4 SO) over 4.2 innings. 

Game 2 - Pioneers 11... Dawson 12

The Pioneers ralled from a 10-5 deficit after 5 innings of play and scored 6 runs in the 6th to take a 11-10 lead. All of that went for not as Dawson scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 12-11 lead. The Bucs cut down the tying run at home plate in the 7th inning when Alexa Lewis (Bozeman, MT) tried to score on a Mars Weaver (Rexburg, ID) bunt to save the win for DCC.

1B Lilinoe Nihi had a hot bat in game 2 with a 2-3 (2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R) effort at the plate as did 2B Abby Johnson (Hamilton, MT). Johnson was 3-4 (HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) and hit a go ahead homer in the 6th inning that gave the Pioneers a 11-10 lead that they could not hold on to. HaiLeigh Davis had 2 hits for MCC, and LF Liz Ybarra (Belgrade, MT) added a hit as did Megan Toplovich (Great Falls, MT)

Alex Carr (Idaho Falls, ID) got the start in the circle for the Pioneers and when 5 innings. She gave up 10 runs on 13 hits with a strikout. Madi Henry pitched the final inning of the game and gave up 2 runs on a hit with one walk. 

The Pioneers are now 16-12 on the season and 9-7 in MonDak Conference play.
