Game 1 - Pioneers 14... Lake Region State 5 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers softball team got it's 2024 season off on the right foot on Saturday afternoon in Minot, ND. The Pioneers pounded out 15 hits over only 4 innings as they didn't have to bat in the bottom of the 5th due to the 8-run rule. The Pioneers scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and then piled on 7 more runs in the bottom of the 4th. 

5 Pioneers had muliple hits in the game led by freshman Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) with a 3-3 (RBI, 2 R) effort at the plate. Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT) was 2-4 (2 RBI, R) from the lead off spot and was followed by Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) with a 2-4 (3 RBI, R) as well. Freshman Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) was 2-4 (2B, 2 RBI, R) and behind her in the order Rian Ferriter (DP - Butte, MT) was 2-4 (2 RBI). Taylor Feller (C - Laurel, MT), Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT), Megan Brownson (3B - Billings, MT), and Viannca Martin (RF - Billings, MT) all registered a hit in the game. 

Every Pioneer that batted had a hit in the game. 

In the circle for MCC was Sophomore Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT). Whitehead pitched a complete game (5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, BB, 6 SO) to get her first win of the season after a strong freshman campaign. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 15 hits to just 7 for the Royals. 
  • The Pioneers issued only 1 walk and the Royal pitchers had 4 walks. 
  • MCC had 5 stolen bases in the game and LRSC had 0. 
  • MCC batters struck out only once. 
  • The Pioneers committed 2 errors and the Royals had 1.

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 11... Bismarck State 8 (5 Innings)

The Pioneers kept their hot bats rolling in game 2 by scoring 7 more runs in the top of the 1st inning and then held off a late Bismarck State surge with a 11-8 win in the Minot dome on Saturday afternoon. 

Khloey Robinson kept the hot bat going with 3 more hits in a 3-4 effort (3 R). Shannon Nelson had a 2-4 (R) effort and Cassidy Bagnell registered a 2-3 (RBI, R). Brooke Richardson had 2 more hits (2 RBI, 2 R) in 4 at bats. Dalilah Hernandez and a double for her hit in the game and Sierra Tuss (DP - Belgrade, MT) hit a triple. Sidney Rusdal (RF - Libby, MT) had a hit with a RBI and 2 runs scored. Viannca Martin had a double with 2 RBI and a run scored. 

Rian Ferriter got her first collegiate start in the circle and pitched a complete game 5 innings (9 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 4 SO).

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers smacked 13 hits in the game and the Mystics had 9.
  • Each team had 4 strikeouts. 
  • The Mystic pitchers issued 4 walks and the Ferriter walked 3. 
  • MCC committed only 1 error in the game and BSC had 2. 

The Pioneers play Williston State tomorrow at 11:00 AM MST and Dakota College at Bottineau at 3:00 PM MST to wrap up opening weekend.
