2-Game Split on Second Day of Opening Weekend For Pioneer Softball

Game 1 - Pioneers 3... Williston State 8

Following a day in which the MCC Pioneer bats were on fire, Williston State held the Pioneers scoreless for 4 innings and walked away with a 8-3 victory on Sunday morning in Minot, ND. 

After scoring 25 runs on Saturday, the Pioneers scored only 3 runs on 5 hits on Sunday morning. Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) tallied 2 hits in 2 at bats that included a walk but MCC could not get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the 5th inning when MCC scored 3 runs. 

MCC got doubles in the game from Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) and Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) and the other hit came from the bat of Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT). 

Mackenzie Foss (Libby, MT) started the game in the circle for the Pioneers (2.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 BB, SO) before giving way to Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) to finish off the game (2.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, BB, SO)

Inside the Box Score

  • MCC had only 5 hits in the game and Williston pounded out 13. 
  • MCC had 1 error and WSC had none.
  • Williston scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning. 
  • MCC pitchers walked 3 batters and the WSC pitchers also walked 3. 
  • WSC had 3 doubles and the Pioneers had 2. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 24... Dakota College at Bottineau 3

MCC scored 10 runs in the top of the 1st inning and then 10 more in the 3rd inning and cruised to a 24-3 victory over Dakota College at Bottineau to close out opeing weekend with a 3-1 record. 

Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT) was a perfect 4-4 (2B, RBI, 4 R) from the leadoff spot. Cassidy Bagnell finished 3-4 (2B, RBI, 3 R) to cap off an outstanding weekend at the plate. Khloey Robinson continued her hot bat as well with a 3-5 effort (2 RBI, 3 R). Taylor Feller (3B - Laurel, MT) had a 2-3 effort (2 RBI, 3 R) as did Brooke Richardson (3 RBI, R). Megan Brownson (3B - Billings, MT) was 2-2 (2B, 2 RBI, 2 R). Miles City Native Ella Anderson (RF) was 3-5 (3B, 5 RBI, 2 R) in her Pioneer debut.

Rian Ferriter (Butte, MT) got the start in the circle (3 IP, 2 R, 2 H, BB, 2 SO) before being replaced by Arin Eaton (Belgrade, MT) to finish the game (2 IP, 2 H, R, BB, 3 SO).

  • The Pioneers cracked 23 hits and only struck out 4 times. DCB had only 4 hits and struck out 5 times. 
  • MCC had 2 errors and DCB had 4 errors. 
  • MCC scored 8 runs on 5 hits before 2 outs were recorded in the 1st inning.
