MonDak Conference Play Starts With Two Pioneer Softball Wins

Game 1 - Pioneers 6... Bismarck State 2

Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) domintated the Bismarck State Mystics from the start pitching a complete game 7 innings (3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO) as the MCC Pioneers got off to a strong start in MonDak Conference action on Tuesday afternoon in Miles City. Whitehead surrendered only one hit through the first 6 innings as the Pioneers built a 6-0 lead and BSC scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th but it would not be enough to make a large comeback. 

The game was scoreless and both teams only had one hit until the bottom of the 4th inning when the Pioneers got on the board with 4 runs. Taylor Feller (C - Laurel, MT) and Brooke Richardson (Helena, MT) each singled before Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rian Ferriter (Butte, MT) got the 1st RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to rightfield that scored Feller. Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) walked to load the bases again and Isabelle Adams (3B - Park City, MT) doubled to drive in 2 runs. Arin Eaton rounded out the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly to rightfield that scored Robinson. 

MCC extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the 6th with a slew of singles. Robinson started the inning with a single and Adams followed suit. Arin Eaton (RF - Belgrade, MT) laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases. Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT) had a RBI single followed by a RBI single from Feller. 

Bismarck State got on the board in the top of the 7th with two runs with nobody out but the Pioneers closed the game with 3 consecutive outs. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 12 base hits with 11 of those being singles. BSC had only 3 hits. 
  • MCC committed the only error of the game.
  • Dalilah Hernandez had the only stolen base of the game. 
  • Nelson, Feller, Richardson, Robinson, and Adams each had 2 hits in the game. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 16... Bismarck State 7 (5 Innings)

Dalilah Hernandez sent a high fly ball in to the right field jet stream and the wind carried the ball over the fence for a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 1st inning for a 4-0 Pioneer lead and MCC would not look back building a 16-1 lead thru 4 innings before BSC plated 6 runs in the 5th inning to make the score look more respectable. 

The Pioneers picked up 3 more runs in the 2nd inning with a RBI double by Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) and a 2-run home run from Feller. MCC quickly plated 7 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd and led 14-0 after 3 innings of play. 

BSC got a run in the top of the 4th and MCC picked up 2 more in the bottom of the inning for an insurmountable 16-1 lead. 

Bagnell was a perfect 3-3 at the plate while Richardson, Hernandez, Robinson, and Viannca Martin (RF - Billings, MT) each had 2 hits in the game. 

Arin Eaton pitched game 2 for the Pioneers and went the full 5 innings (6 H, 7 R, 3 BB, 7 SO) to pick up the win.

  • Bismarck State had 5 errors in the game and the Pioneers had 3. 
  • MCC had 6 extra base hit and BSC had 2.
  • MCC had 3 stolen bases and BSC had 1. 

The Pioneers are 2-0 in MonDak Conference play and are 8-5 overall. The 2 teams will play a doubleheader again on Wednesday afternoon in Miles City with the 1st game set to start at 1:00 PM.
