Warm Weather Leads to Pioneer Sweep of Lake Region

Game 1 - Pioneers 6... Lake Region State 5

The 4th inning turned out to be the story of game one. Neither team scored in the 1st 3 innings on Saturday and the MCC Pioneers were hitless in those innings as well. 

Things looked bleak for the Pioneers as Lake Region tabbed 5 runs in the top of the 4th inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Pioneers gathered themselves and Lily Bolin (DP - Belgrade, MT) had the big shot with a 3-run home run that gave the Pioneers the final margin of 6-5. Taylor Feller (C - Laurel, MT) got things started with a one out single to break up the Royals no-hitter and she moved to 2nd on a passed ball. Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) drove Feller in with a single to centerfield. Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT) was hit by a pitch and Isabelle Adams (3B - Park City, MT) doubled to drive in a run and put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) smacked a hard hit single that drove in Hernandez and put runners on the corners to cut the lead to 5-3. Bolin became the hero with a line drive that cleared the centerfield fence.

Neither team scored again and the Pioneers held on for the hard fought victory. Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) pitched a complete game (7 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) to get the win for MCC.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had only 6 hits in the game and Richardson was the only Pioneer with 2 hits. Lake Region had 9 hits. 
  • MCC had 2 errors and LRSC had one.
  • Lake Region had 2 stolen bases and Miles had one. 
  • Lake Region pitchers walked 5 batters and struck out 2. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... Lake Region State 3 (5 Innings)

Game 2 was a different story as the Pioneers scored in every inning and ended the game early due to the 8-run rule. 

The Pioneers put 4 on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning as Cassidy Bagnell (CF - Frenchtown, MT) started things off with a one out single. Taylor Feller drew a walk and Brooke Richardson connected on a 3-run home run. Dalilah Hernandez was then hit by a pitch and Arin Eaton (LF - Belgrade, MT) singled to put Hernandez on 3rd. Khloey Robinson then hit a sacrifice fly RBI to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead. 

Lake Region plated 2 runs in the top of the 2nd to cut the lead in half but MCC scored 3 more in the bottom of the 2nd for a 7-2 lead. Viannca Martin (RF - Billings, MT) singled and was out at 2nd on a fielder's choice hit by Shannon Nelson (SS - Livingston, MT). Nelson stole 2nd base and moved to 3rd on a sacrifice by Bagnell. Taylor Feller belted a 2-run home run to make the score 6-2. Richardson singled, stole 2nd, and scored on a single off the bat of Hernandez. 

MCC scored another run in the 3rd as Robinson led the inning off with a double, moved to 3rd on a ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Martin. 

The Pioneers put the game away with 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Richardson walked and Hernendez reached base on a LRSC error. Sierra Tuss (Belgrade, MT) drew a walk to load the bases and Robinson singled to drive in 2 Pioneer runs. Tuss and Robinson moved up a base on a Royal error (misplayed infield fly). Tuss scored on a passed ball and Robinson scored on an errant throw from catcher to the pitcher. Martin then singled and pinch hitter Megan Brownson (Billings, MT) connected on a 2-run homer for a 14-2 lead. 

LRSC added an irrelevant run in the top of the 5th inning but the games ending was not in question. 

Rian Ferriter (Butte, MT) pitched a complete game (5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 SO) to pick up the win. 

The Pioneers are now 10-4 in MonDak Conference play and 16-9 overall. Lake Region fell to 1-7 in MonDak play and 5-19 overall. The teams play a doubleheader Sunday starting at 11:00 AM.
